Fun and "Profit"

So way back in 96 or so, there was this short-lived series on FOX (yes, another one) called "Profit."

It was about a man climbing the corporate ladder in a large business.

What made it interesting was that the man, Jim Profit, was a psychopath and his ideas of how to get ahead in the world involved knocking down all those above him. Plots and counter-plots, framing people for murder and whatever else it takes to get them out of his was what made the show so cool. So, of course FOX killed it before even half a season.

Why am I writing about it? Because it's recently come out on DVD and I've been watching an episode a night, enjoying it every bit as much now as I did then.

And if it helps, one of the creators was David Greenwalt who went on to work on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel." (if it doesn't help, ignore that bit)

"The Devil's Rejects" and Hooters

So....last weekend I went with Kitten and Starburst to see "The Devil's Rejects," Rob Zombie's follow-up to "House of 1000 Corpses."

A pretty twisted little affair, which should come as no surprise to anyone who saw the first one. I liked it better than the first one, too. Not for the squeamish or easily offended.

After that, we hit the relatively new local Hooters. This was my first trip to one, so I was looking forward to it just to see what it was like.

The waitress sat down at the booth with us and chatted a bit. Seemed to be a standard thing, as I noticed several others doing the same thing at their tables. I guess it helped that we weren't there during a particularly busy time. Of course, all the while I'm sitting talking and trying to be polite, I'm thinking I'd rather be looking over the menu (such as it is) and order. After the food is on the way, then I'll be more chatty - until it arrives. Then get the heck away and let me eat in peace.

It was interesting to see other people in there and their behavior. The waitresses were signing t-shirts and letting guys take their pictures. Don't see too many of the workers at Wendy's doing that. A couple folks had their kids along, and they were running around having fun and it really did seem like a 'family' restaurant.

Ashton (our waitress) mentioned that the town reacted to the arrival of Hooters like, well, I guess like you'd expect a small burg with a small population of small-minded Bible-thumpers to react. Considering we've had a 'gentlemen's club' for years, along with an 'adult novelty' place and at least two kinky underwear stores, you'd think a Hooters wouldn't really raise an eyebrow, but that's my town. Easier to complain about something like that or "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" (there's NO explicit sex in the game people!! NONE!!!) than actually try and fix a real problem.

But I digress....

The food was decent but over priced, which probably doesn't surprise anyone. Might go back to try some hotter wings (I likes my hot wings). I'll definitely go back if someone I'm with wants to go. And pays.

I heard a rumor, which I didn't think about trying to get to the bottom of at the time, that after a year Hooters will pay for the waitresses to get breast enlargements. Hope not. Never been a fan of the fakies and the girls there, while 'smaller' than I expected from all the hype, were all quite cute and didn't need any artificial enhancement. A few could've used a sammich or two.
