Greetings,

There's a mag (Starlog-related, maybe?) of the 100
Greatest S-F Films or somesuch on the stands now.
Yes, BB made there list, with a little half page
write-up which included a mention of the FOX project.
Every little bit helps.

Later...

Calling all BB fans,

Shadowstarr here. It's been a while since I've submitted, but I have a
pressing question that needs to be answered. I have a Banzai Institute
T-shirt, you know, the black one with the Institute logo on the front. On
the back is a quote attiributed to our hero, Buckaroo. It says "The only
reason for time is so everything doesn't happen at once." Was this quote
ever in the movie? I seem to recall that it was the first time I saw it back
in 1984, but it's not in the copy I have on tape, nor have I noticed it when
the movie has been broadcast on TV. Also, I just recently purchased the
novel, and I didn't find it in there either. If the quote isn't from the
movie or novel, where did it come from? Any insight on this is greatly
appreciated. Thanks!

Shadowstarr

Here's a quote for you:

"Buckaroo, you forgot your thruster."
"Why don't you hold on to it for a while."

Thought I'd pass this along as it may bear on getting the Book,
especially if Simon & Schuster fail to reprint it in the near future
(which could be the case if the series is in Development Hell for too
long...)

The short form version is that Barnes & Noble and IBM are getting
together to bring Print-on-Demand technology into the mass market. This
means that if there's not enough demand for an out-of-print title to
justify a reprint edition based on current practice, it may be possible
to get single copies of it as they're requested, depending on the usual
copyright issues. S&S may or may not authorize BB for this, but you never
know...

of the date on the online version), go to:

Greetings all!

I've been keeping busy lately working on Team-Banzai.net and the
Buckaroo Banzai convension a.k.a. BBcon, for this coming August. We
could really use some assistance on this project. The first and easiest
step all of you could take it to register with the convention. That can
be done by visiting 'your Blue Blaze Irregular site" using this link
which will take you directly to the temporary page for registration:
http://www.team-banzai.net/bbcon.html
Just follow the easy instruction and if you hurry with an sase you can
be rewarded with the really cool Team Banzai button.
I call this page 'temporary' because by the end of the month we will
have a BBcon web site up and running so that you can keep updated and
amused.

We are also looking for staff and volunteers for this online event. The
positions range from the easiest like signing up for a two hour chat
room host spot to more challenging duties.

Buckaroo Banzai Convention Staff

Here is a rundown of some of the positions we have determined are
necessary. Many of these positions may require either more than one
person, or for someone to assemble a staff. Anyone interested in
becoming a staff member or volunteer should subscribe themselves BB Con
Staff mailing list that is being hosted by Onelist.
The online event is this coming August 11, 12 & 13. Main programming
hours (All PST)
Friday 12 PM noon to 8 PM, Saturday 9 to 9 and Sunday 10 to 6.

Please look over these Staff positions and see if there is anything that
you wish to help out with. I am giving the open positions a rating
(Easy/Moderate/Tough) on responsibility & difficulty based on my
experience to help with your decisions.
NP = Need person to fill position
NS = Need staff member(s)
F = Filled

F - Chair (BBI Dragon) organizer and main representative of the event.
(Default person for any duties that don't get done by someone else)

NP / NS (Moderate) Art Show / Artist Liaison - contact artists to
contribute to the gallery web page(s). Items can be for viewing and sale
/auction. A focus on BB items, but other items of interest too. You
would also be sending out any artists information and be the general
contact for this end of things. Act as auctioneer or set up eBay account
for the auctions. You do not need to be an artist to do this nor do you
need to be responsible for the web site portion of it.
Timeline: Develop a basic information package and show contacts by
April-May.

NS (Easy) Chat Room Hosts / Moderators - (BBI Relayer and others) We
will need many of these. Basically you hang out in the con's chat room
so that when someone enters it's not empty. Keep the conversation on
track or on topic. When there isn't a specific topic you will keep
things "lively" and instigate conversation.
2 hour blocks at a time during main programming hours (All PST - Friday
noon to 8 PM, Saturday 9 to 9 and Sunday 10 to 6). Familiarity with IRC,
channel services and Eggdrop bots a plus but not necessary. There should
be a main moderator and an alternate for each two hour block.

NP / NS (Moderate) Charity Auction - Organize and solicit items for the
auction. Act as auctioneer or set up eBay account for the auction.
Time line: Show progress in setup and items by early July. Work with
Dealer's room and Art Show staff members on auction items.

F - Dealers Room - (BBI Texas) contact businesses and private parties to
offer items for sale at (or through) the con web site. A focus on BB
items, but other items of interest too. Offer of links to their web
sites or offer to arrange for setup of page at BBcon web site in
exchange for contribution to auction. Amount to be determined later.
Time line: Press release development with actors and their films for
crossover merchandise by end of March.

(Moderate because of the need for decorum)
NP / NS Guest Liaison(s) - At least 1 person to be able to help guests
while "at" the convention. Act as guides, answer questions, make them
feel welcome. This would mean being available during main programming
hours (All PST - Friday noon to 8 PM, Saturday 9 to 9 and Sunday 10 to
6).

(Moderate because of the need for decorum)
F - Interviewer - (PriddyGirl) We may need to have someone to conduct
written and / or vocal interviews of some guests instead of having them
in a chat room format. Details as we work them out. Experience suggested
but not necessary.

NS Programming - (BBI Dragon and ?) responsible for contacting guests
and setting up the schedule for the chat room and interviews. I'd like
someone to help & bounce ideas off of. I would consider the assistant's
position a Moderate responsibility position.

(Tough to Moderate rating, because you are basically marketing the con
to the outside world)
NS Publicity - BBI PriddyGirl and we need staff) contacting other web
sites like the Sci Fi channel to advertise the event. Make posts to
newsgroups and WWO on a regular basis with up dates. Get the word out,
keep the word out. There are many avenues out there, you should be
familiar with the web and or be prepared to have a small staff.
Time line: Develop Public Service Announcement by April and send them
out, keep them updated.

NS (Easy) Souvenirs - one or more people could work on this as separate
offerings/downloads. Got any ideas? This is open to a lot of creative
folks out there to create your souvenir ideas, if someone would like to
organize this, that would also be helpful.

Note #1 from the Chair - I am concerned on two issues with the
souvenirs. #1 is that the con has no $s to support any projects right
now and I wonder if that will ever change. #2 is the issue of
copyrights. We can likely get away with creating our own logo items for
BBcon but the minute we produce anything with the standard logos that
are identified with BB/Team Banzai we could run into trouble. The free
downloads are the most likely and safest avenues, however I would like
to see something else available.

Note # 2: Maybe an "Agreement" with private persons that could make and
/or finance BBcon memorabilia and offer it for sale at the con online
and privately. There would be a limit to productions numbers and
possible donation expectations.

F - Tech Support - (BBI Rally) setup and maintain key elements of the
web site like chat room, bulletin board(s), streamed audio, etc.
Time line: Have working BBcon web site ready for public showing late
February.

(Moderate) Treasurer (Abacus)- This is a tentative position.

F - Web site Construction - (BBI Dragon / Rally) create the pages for
the BBcon. This will also be a large department as every event will need
a well maintained web site as well as frequent updates during the
convention weekend. Anyone interested in helping to develop web pages
for the various functions of the convention should contact Dragon or
Rally.

Please contact me if you have any questions about the BBcon Staff
positions and/or wish to help out.

New topic time:
Ebay TABB video auctions.

I seems like every time I go to take a look at Ebay for BB items, of the
30 to 40 there, a
good 75% or more of them are vhs copies of the film TABB. And the really
weird
thing I find is that many seems to be bidding against each other on
different auctions.
Now doesn't it figure that if there are so many vhs tapes at any one
time up for auction there should be enough to go around?

Yet, everyone seems to bid against each other and drive the prices up up
up.
What is with that?
Okay, you could say it's 'the American way' or it's 'free enterprise'.
I find is kind of silly.

We need a simple system for the fans of BB to follow so that we take
turns
bidding on these tapes. This would end up keeping the prices down.
Granted we
can't reach the non-BBlist or non-WWOnline bidders but this would cut
down on
some of the competition.

This is what I suggest and I'm open to input here.

There are at least 28 days in every month. We divide the months into
four
groups of days, each with 7-8 days in each group. Like, February 1st to
7th,
8th to 14th, 15th to 21st and 22nd to 29th.
Now everyone interested in bidding on a copy of TABB checks the month
they were
born in.
Jan., Feb. and March bid on tapes with ending dates of Feb. 1st to 7th.
April, May and June birthdays bid on tapes with ending dates of Feb. 8th
to 14th.
July, Aug. and Sept. bid on auctions ending on Feb. 15th to the 21st.
Oct., Nov. and Dec. B-days bid on copies with ending dates of the 22nd
to 29th.

This simple method will cut down on the number of us bidding against
each other
and should help to bring down the winning price.

What do you think?

I have heard " ...this plan is so beautiful in it's simplicity, it
should work..."
BBI DragonStar

And BBlist posts that could be paraphrased as, " just go bootleg a
private use copy or record off of TV or cable" and along with this "who
does the better job broadcasting the film without editing it to pieces".

Well that's it for this issue of the WWO.
I've given you some things to think about, food for thought.

Take care and go register for BBcon asap, please!

Always True Blue,
BBI Dragon

Random novel quote: Whorfin has escaped and found a phone to put in a
call to Yoyodyne.
" He had to wait several minutes, as his party the alien Lectroid called
John Bigboote, had to be found and roused from sleep, a circumstance
which only confirmed in Whorfin's mind the timeliness, nay the
necessity, of his escape".
