Greetings,

Welcome to the second century of World Watch OnLine.

After my comment last ish about my anticipation of the FOX BB
project, I was reminded that the first real rumors of a Star Trek revival
started circulating in Spring, 1972, but it was not until December, 1979 that
Star Trek: The Motion Picture actually hit the movie theatres.

I havent decided if that makes me feel better or worse. Seven years of
waiting??

In the meantime, head on over to http://www.dailyscript.com/ and check out
the new stuff. There's a new BB fanfiction script up there. Not a bad read.
Have some nits, but thats how I am. Beware, its not PG as far as language goes.
Anyone wants to review for the List, go for it.

I see Floyd is still causing trouble for lots of folks. Hopefully yall were as lucky as
World Watch OnLine was. Remember - http://www.redcross.org

Later...

As a rabid BB fan with video, T-shirt, and official post cards to show for
it, I will dare to mention another recent movie that I think captures some of
the spirit of BB... though not up to its high standards, of course. Has
anyone caught Mystery Men yet? I thought that it was quite a hoot, sort of a
trailer trash version of X-men. If you get a chance you should really try to
catch it.

PS If anyone has access to any BB memorabilia that is reasonably priced I
would be interested.

Greetings, everyone!!
BBI Crazy Horse reporting in from the Fabulous Florida Keys!!
First and foremost, I wish good luck for those of you still dealing
with hurricane Floyd. We here in the keys were spared once again, but we
still know what it's like.
Anyway, congrats to all the winners in Dragon's contest!! He should put
those on his web site. Speaking of which, if his site is only half as
great as it sounds, it should be absolute coolness. Be there or be
square. Before I
leave, I just wanna say that you ALL should check out the GABB. It is
fun and informative, but it is FUN!!!!!!! Lately it has been lasting
about 3 hours. Give it a chance and try it. You'll have fun, fun, fun
till somebody takes your keyboard away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greetings all.

Seems to me some folks were talking a bit back about the font used for
the Team Banzai backpatch, etc. Since then, I've discovered a
tremendously useful bit of font management freeware from Hewlett Packard
which some of you might be interested in, so I thought I'd pass the info
along.

The name of this program is "HP FontSmart Lite". While it doesn't let you
choose you're own preview text to examine fonts with, it installs and
uninstalls fonts faster and easier than anything else I've seen yet and
lets you put up samples of the font next to the name of every font
(installed or not) you've got on every active drive on your system. As
far as I can tell, the biggest difference between this one and the
commercial version (HP FontSmart) is that this only comes with 36 fonts
and the commercial one comes with 145 fonts. If you have a lot of fonts,
this one lets you install and uninstall them easily as you actually need
them -- and they take up a lot less of your system resources if they're
not actively installed.

The direct URL you can use to get this is
http://www.fontsmart.com/progs.htm -- from there you'll need to register,
but it's free (and who says you can't use your obnoxious <fill in the
blank>'s e-dress), and use the link to download it.

Of course, if you already own a recent HP printer, you've got the
commercial version already and don't need this, but since I know a lot
more people who don't have HP equipment than those who do, I thought I'd
pass it along.

Greetings

I was wondering if you guys were aware that Team Banzai appears in an
unexpected piece of literature? Let me set it up. FASA, a gaming company,
produces a game called Battletech, aka Mechwarrior. Within the game and
accompanying novels, it's the year 3020+ (depends on which books you read),
and the game centers on wars occurring in known space at the time. Wars are
fought with 10 meter tall battlemechs. Essentially walking tanks. In some
of the novels, written by Michael A. Stackpole, numerous mentions are made,
and even some scenes include, Team Banzai. The name Buckaroo isn't actually
used, but he's referred to as "the enigmatic Dr. B. Banzai." Perfect Tommy
("Tommy" in the books"), Reno, and Rawhide are also mentioned. The Hong Kong
Cavaliers, Blue Blazers, and Radar Blazers are all referred to as military
units. Team Banzai, and Dr. B. in particular, are the core research team of
the most technologically advanced sector of space, House Davion (the good
guys, usually). Team Banzai appears in the "Warrior Trilogy" of Battletech
books (Warrior: En Garde, Warrior: Riposte, and Warrior: Coupe), and if I
recall correctly are mentioned at least in the next trilogy (Lethal Heritage,
Blood Legacy, Lost Destiny). The biggest mention, including an appearance by
Tommy, is in a short chapter near the end of Warrior: Riposte; but there are
other mentions scattered throughout... including an explanation of the
watermelon thing!

Anyway, I was just checking to see if you guys knew of this. If not, check
it out; not just for the Banzai references, but because both trilogies are a
good read. If you care to look up Stackpole, start here:

Let me know what you think of all this.

Well hello everyone!

This installment of Dragon Tales is going to have to be a quick one, as I've
been spending most of my spare time this last week working on
"team-banzai.net". Abacus' and I's fine toothed combs are well worn in
finishing up the little details. In fact as I type this out I'm just a short
time from uploading my site to the host.
On a nut shell, "team-banzai.net" is dedicated to those I consider the "true"
Team Banzai, the BBIs and fans of the film. So, there are many way to
participate in my site, like having a picture of yourself up on the Who's Who
in the BBI's wall, an online BB fanzine where you can contribute short
essays,
drawings, articles and BBI pov fan fic (please see Fan Fic page for editorial
details).
Also there will be a bulletin board for talking about and trading of BB
memorabilia, at Club 88.
This is a good start for a BB web site, I have many more page ideas that will
just have to wait until later. So, next week surf by the new BB site of
mine and see if we've got the bugs worked out.

GABBs/BB chats
I'm still running the GABBS/chats at TalkCity. They have been going very
well,
but could always use more participants, believe it! Below is the usual
information on them:
Please note that the usual Wednesday GABB is
being temporarily moved to Tuesday this week only.

Howdy Fellow Buckaroos!
(please see "new note" below for those having trouble entering the chats)

It time again for a good old, sit around the camp fire, roasting marshmallows
kind of chat!
Bring your favorite beverage along and pull up a log, it's gabbing time!

We will be at: http://home.talkcity.com/

Tuesday September 21th, evening 6 PM PST/9 PM EST
(Temporarily moved to Tuesday this week only.)

The next GABB/BB chat room opportunity will be;
Saturday September 25th, morning 9 AM PST/12 PM EST

Once you get to the above site the instructions are:
Click on "chat" on the black strip near the top of the front page.
Then go to "If you already know the room you want to chat in? Enter here:",
type in "BUCKAROO" (all caps) and click on "Go!"
From there you'll have to type in a user name in the "not a member yet" area
assuming you aren't a member.
This site won't like "BBI(space) your name" as a user name. So I suggest that
you use a "-" between "BBI" and your name (like "BBI-Dragon") or just use
your
name alone. Some servers do not like the "-" between "BBI" & name".
You'll just have to find out what works for you.
Then click on "chat".

Chats will last for around two hours but often go for longer.

This following information comes from BBI Earth2Kim and is for those who have
computer trouble with any Java but would like to join in on the GABBs/chats.
TalkCity is accessible through both the web (as we've been using) and IRC
(short for Internet Relay Chat). For those of you who can't get the Java to
work with your browser, try searching Yahoo for a free IRC client (Like mIRC,
IRCle, Global Chat, etc. There are a lot), download that, then do the
following to get into chat: Connect to server chat.talkcity.com then type:
/join BUCKAROO BANZAI and you should be in.
Each IRC client differs from each other, but all should be straightforward on
how to change servers, create nicknames, and get in rooms.

New note regarding the BB GABBs/chat rooms:
It has come to my attention that a few people are having trouble finding and
entering the BB chats. One trick seems to be to instead of entering the name
of the chat room you wish to join (BUCKAROO), try to "create" your own chat
room" using "BUCKAROO" as the name and that should get you into the existing
room if one is already up and running.

Okay, that's the GABB information.
Now I'm going to come up with a quick random novel quote and go back to my
web
site work. Hope to see some of you at it next week!

Always True Blue,
BBI Dragon

Reno and Perfect Tommy on the Bus headed for the Jet Car test site:
Reno is shaken awake for a second time that morning,
"What is it , Tommy? Can't it wait?"
Tommy, "Buckaroo's leaving."
He had heard the helicopter. I shouldn't have laughed, but no one ever told
Tommy anything. He was the youngest of our number and the good-humored butt
of
our jokes. Again on this occasion he was the last
to know.
"Well, what do we do now?" he said.
"Let's get some breakfast."

Disclaimer/Author Notes:

This story takes place in Spring 1987 (between the events of the movie
and Rafterman's proposed script for the sequel, from which it takes a few
plot cues). It's written from Reno Nevada's point of view much after the
fact, which seemed the best way to avoid getting flamed by folks who own
the book, and lets me pick up a few details from there more easily as
well.

Characters and concepts related to Buckaroo Banzai belong to other
people. See disclaimer on Chapter One for full info. In any event, the
author has no intent to make any money hereby and is just having fun.
Don't complain if details here don't coincide with the TV pilot/series;
this was started before the pilot script.

Plot elements and other characters are copyright 1998-??? and
1990-infinity, respectively, and are the property of Replay, except

check). People with permission to archive the text know who they are; all
others should e-mail me at BBI_Replay@yahoo.com first. Send comments and

--------------------------------------------------

Previously--

After an explosion wreaks havoc on their hotel rooms, Team Banzai has
relocated rather hastily to a former school at the edge of the metro
area. Their only wounded from the incident is Replay, who regains
consciousness 3 days after her second exposure to talava. Only she and
Buckaroo are aware at first that she remembers none of them except
Rawhide, whom she'd once drawn and only vaguely recalls.

Enter the plot complications: Wayback, a telepath who'd been testing
Replay's own psionic abilities to determine what effect, if any, her
prior exposure has had; a storm which borders on being epic in proportion
but which doesn't want to spawn the expected tornadoes; Hanoi Xan's spies
inside Team Banzai; Lindbergh, an intern and the Institute's senior
pilot, who Wayback can't easily read; a suspicious power failure and the
definitely hostile jamming of Team Banzai communications; a police
Captain who considers Team Banzai vigilantes and the Blue Blaze
Irregulars wannabe vigilantes, and who has unwittingly assigned 2 BBIs to
the case; Deng Fat, one of Xan's lieutenants with a particular interest
in Replay, and the World Crime League team working for him who try to
kidnap Reno and Wayback; a lightning bolt; a federal witness turned FBI
agent; and two bridges, one closed, the other with a host of problems
including World Watch One at rest upon it. Further, Replay's cover is at
least partially blown, revealing her true identity -- gypsy resident Jet
Lightfoot -- to Lindbergh.

As Chapter 14 begins, things get interesting for various law enforcement
personnel...

--------------------------------------------

Lock and Key
Chapter Fourteen, pt.1

Those of you familiar with the adventure Across the Eighth Dimension in
both its print and cinematic forms are most likely aware of certain
discrepancies in the translation from one medium to the other. While it
is certainly true that neither represents the events of those two days
with 100% fidelity in regard to conditions at Yoyodyne (neither words nor
pictures properly convey the smell of the place), the one glaring
difference between the book and the movie which has been brought to our
attention repeatedly is the matter of terminology. The film refers to
John Whorfin and John Emdall alike as 'Lectroids', distinguishing between
their species only by appending the references to their skin colors which
are now so commonly heard. At best this is something of an
oversimplification; while it is true that John Emdall's ancestors
actively designed and bred Whorfin's troops for a considerable number of
generations before we encountered any extraterrestrial life, all evidence
we have access to at present proves them to be two separate (though
related) species. Of these, it is only Whorfin's kind, referred to as
'Red Lectroids' for most of the movie, who can properly be called
'Lectroids'. John Emdall's people, the so-called 'Black Lectroids' are
correctly termed 'Adders'.

This said, I should also note that once the Nova Police had become aware
of John Whorfin's 1938 escape to this planet, they were not long in
placing agents of their own to prevent anything from happening on Earth
which might prove detrimental to Planet 10. From their point of view, it
was simply a sensible precaution, not unlike erecting and manning a guard
shack at the entrance to a military installation or a large defense
contractor's facilities, save only that the Adders intended their
presence to go unnoticed both by humans and the Lectroids. Thanks to
intelligence gathered by several sources, John Emdall among them, we now
know that these Adder operatives were scattered across a much broader
area than their Lectroid targets. Some were specifically tasked to
maintain a watch on Yoyodyne and the Trenton Home for the Criminally
Insane, others instructed to watch for and report any signs of Lectroid
presence beyond Grovers Mill. Indeed, early in the first year she'd spent
with us, Jet had inadvertently drawn the attention of one of these latter
agents, much to her professional chagrin; unaccustomed to being followed
so easily by any but the very best of her own people's undercover
officers, she'd been rather concerned she was losing her skills until
she'd deliberately courted a confrontation and discovered for herself
that Adders possess certain rudimentary psychic abilities of their own.

Unlike John Lancer (who'd spent 30 years as a detective with the New
Jersey State Patrol before retiring to go freelance), John Underwood had
been with the FBI far too long to get attached to a new partner easily;
he'd had a half dozen so far in the eight years he'd worked in St. Louis,
two of them deceased now. Three had been transferred to other offices;
one he still visited at McDonnell-Douglas on occasion where the man
worked a desk job in security from his wheelchair. Allie Westin was -- or
should have been -- just partner number seven for at least several more
months, long enough for him to begin to understand her personal
limitations in great detail. Instead, he found that he had great
difficulty thinking of her as an FBI agent; she simply didn't fit the
usual profile in several respects, the first and foremost of them being
that she seemed as though she'd had a life.

When she'd called him up at his own apartment to find out if he'd been
watching his television, he'd decided he was right. He'd turned the set
on and watched the same home video so many others had seen, putting a few
more of the pieces together as much from the lack of uniforms as from
anything else; the bomb squad may have been called before things went
wrong but the lack of police presence shown by the tape was glaring to
his eyes. Unlike a number of his colleagues, he hadn't needed the
commentary to identify the three men coming out of the building as
Buckaroo Banzai, Perfect Tommy, and New Jersey; he probably had a copy of
every Hong Kong Cavaliers recording in existence, including a Planet 10
bootleg or three. He also had access to information sources the rest of
the local FBI office didn't; by the time the station had started the tape
again, he'd been re-transmitting the signal, along with a request for
everything the Nova Police might have had on the blood-covered young
woman who'd come out of the building in B. Banzai's arms. To his
amazement, that request had turned up precious little that Washington
wouldn't have been able to find, and most of it had come from public
records dating back barely six weeks. Prompted by the information
request, an unnamed agent in Brazil had been able to confirm her boarding
a plane in Rio, but no one seemed able to verify her existence before
that. Only the fact that she'd been attacked at La Guardia pointed to her
having any real history at all.

When Allie had dropped this latest surprise in his lap, however, he'd
instinctively known it was related to the bombing somehow. Learning that
his new partner had instead been intended to have a different name and a
life in the Witness Protection Program hadn't been much of a surprise at
this point, though he really hadn't been expecting that. She'd also said
that the local cop who'd been her guardian for weeks was a Blue Blaze
Irregular who might be putting herself at risk in several respects by
having anything at all to do with the case. It was time that someone --
meaning Allie -- stepped in to either run interference for this cop, or
pull the woman out altogether. Given the speed with which events were
suddenly moving, either would have to be a daylight operation. Allie
hadn't needed to name names for John Underwood to immediately vote in
favor of an extraction; everyone in the local bureau office who'd ever
heard of Captain Wilson Travis agreed that the man bordered on
pathological when it came to Team Banzai and anyone connected to them. At
the least, Travis was suspected of being a crooked cop, with possible
links to the World Crime League, but as yet there simply wasn't enough
evidence to get a judge to sign a warrant.

Devising the broad outlines of a plan hadn't taken long. Allie and the
cop were heading out, or were about to; that made it time for John
Underwood to distract Travis. Since the captain either knew or should
have known that the officer in question had been involved in a Witness
Protection operation, they'd decided to use that as an explanation for
their interest in her. Justifying it with their colleagues would require
little more than asking the cop a few questions about whether she had any
knowledge of a relationship between Travis and Tyrone Anderson. Travis,
on the other hand, would have little legal choice but to stand still for
it; by the time he could try any of the usual delaying tactics, Allie and
her friend should be clear of the building, headed back to the federal
building by an indirect route. Unless the World Crime League had managed
to infiltrate the bureau, there was only a slim chance that Travis would
be able to get his hands on his officer before she was ready to go back.

***

Crusher Garbanzo was more than a little surprised to get off with nothing
more than citations for speeding and for a broken taillight. It figured,
though; his luck had been exceptionally consistent for the last 72 hours
-- all bad. The one time he fully expected to be arrested, indeed would
have preferred to be jailed, the cops only wanted to give him a ticket.
The only way it could have been any more embarrassing would have been if
he'd actually resorted to attacking the officer in order to get busted;
that would have been far too much like that bum on television back in the
sixties who'd only wanted a warm place to sleep. Still, in the long run,
attacking the cop might have been a good idea if he'd actually thought of
it in time; the longer he thought about it, the less certain Crusher was
that he still had a life expectancy measurable in any unit larger than
days. If the targets had managed to escape, it might be a matter of hours
instead. The only way he had to find that out at present was to try to
rejoin his team. If they'd actually accomplished their mission, he might
live through the year after all.

When he heard something that sounded like two separate explosions in the
distance before he even got to Creve Coeur Park, he knew the worst had
happened. That left him with scarcely any options: either he faced the
fact that he was a walking dead man right now, or he ratted out the World
Crime League and hoped the police could hide him long enough for the feds
to put him in Witness Protection. Crusher didn't think that was a
difficult choice at all. He'd take his chances with the cops; at least
then he had a halfway realistic chance of being around for Christmas.
