Greetings,

Hope all had a nice weekend. A deployment had me away from the
puter this weekend, so I decided Id throw an ish together tonight
since theres a time-sensitive announcement. No fanfic this time, but
Ive got the next part of Lock and Key and The Shadow: Return
of the Demon on hand, so dont despair. Now if only more Whisper
would come through... (nudge nudge wink wink - no pressure)

Still having some technical difficulties, not with AOL but with the ISP
I use to get through to AOL I think. By the end of the weekend, all
issues to date should be on the web site for those that missed any. Im
leaving the last several as separate text files, at least until things settle down
on this end.

Almost time for The Simpsons and Futurama so if I make any comments
below, theyll be short.

Till this weekend...

Fellow BBIs, here's an item from AICN about the new Banzai TV show. From
the sounds of it, if they've already spent the money on doing some FX for
the show, it's probably a "go" (at least for the pilot ep.)

Does anyone know for certain whether the development of the Banzai series
means Credit Lyonnaisse sold off Banzai finally? I hear rumors of a DVD
release but thus far no one has backed it up with any hard data such as who
bought the rights from Credit Lyonnaisse, etc. If anyone knows, it would be
great if they would post the info.

Keeping fingers crossed for a DVD release!!!!

Subj: An open response to Cory Edwards
Date:	3/28/99 11:40:32 PM Eastern Standard Time
From:	camelot@amigo.net (Scott Tate)

I want to take a few moments to address Cory Edwards' posting in World
Watch OnLine #78 (March 28), referencing my own posting of the previous
issue.

I do not wish to sound confrontational but, frankly, I am a bit
resentful of being referred to as "someone having a whole lot of time on
their hands." Aside from its unflattering connotation, it simply isn't
accurate; when one employs tools such as the Internet Movie Database,
the underlying research for a piece such as the one I wrote can be
accomplished in a matter of minutes. Even factoring in the time to
double-check my facts, write the actual text, have an objective party
proof a rough draft, and so forth, the overall effort took less
man-hours than, say, I spend commuting to and from my nearby workplace
each week.

Mr. Edwards went on to write that, "This is merely because L.A. (and the
industry as a whole) is really a small town ... . I think these
connections are just ['coincidence and the law of averages']." Indeed,
that is the most probable explanation; it was never my intention to
obscure that point, and in fact I support it in my original text. In my
introductory paragraph I referred to the correlation as a "coincidence,"
and in my conclusion I reiterated that, "It's entirely possible that
this is simply an odd and trivial coincidence. After all, the film
industry can be fairly characterized to a certain degree as one big
family, with only so many actors and crew to go around." My suggestion
of any actual "conspiracy" was meant mostly as a tongue-in-cheek
attention-grabber and, if that wasn't clear, that's my lapse as a
writer.

In the same issue, Mr. Edwards had a second posting that might also be
taken as uncomplimentary by some members of the readership. I won't
presume to speak for everyone, but I for one do not post to "show off"
or "['regurgitate'] egghead speak"; I write because I generally hope
that someone might benefit from my words. With a thorough piece like
the Gibson one in #77, I like to think that my effort might stimulate
someone's broad awareness of the entertainment industry while saving
them the time of compiling tedious research. Like many WWO subscribers,
some of my postings are more superficial than others, some more
opinionated, some more technical or otherwise dry. The Banzai mythos is
many things to many people. If a particular piece (or type of piece)
isn't suited to individual tastes, that's only natural, and if someone
in that position is inclined to state their opinions in a public forum,
that is well within his or her prerogative. But when doing so, we
should all be careful about making generalizations.

In closing, Mr. Edwards wrote, "Richter and Mac Rauch might be a little
overwhelmed by how picked apart their creation actually has become."
Indeed they might. But isn't it also possible that they might be
pleased that, fifteen years later, people are still enjoying their work,
extrapolating from the subtext and discussing elements in depth? Either
way, I can unconditionally agree with Mr. Edwards on his final point:
"Just have fun with it."

As I understand the story behind the creation of Big Trouble in Little
China (this information was from a Cinefantastique magazine I have), the
script was originally written by two unknown writers and set in (I think)
the old west. Carpenter wanted to bring it up to present day and there
were conflicts with the writers. Richter came in as a script doctor and
rewrote the script. I believe he has the screen writing credit and the two
guys who originally wrote the script got a "story by" credit. I don't
think BTILC has any direct connection to Buckaroo Banzai, but I could be
wrong.

Greetings to all from the Haiku Kid!

I joined the WWO mailing list about 5 months ago (WWO #60). Being a
"rookie", I asked for advice from the veteran BBIs on how to "become" a BBI
(registering my call sign, number, etc.) I was pleasantly surprised at the
immediate and friendly responses I received that were full of helpful hints
and advice. The consensus was, "You're in!", so join in and start having
fun! (I wish all of life was this easy! :) Anyway, I thought that it was
about time that I gave a formal thanks to the whole BBI crew and especially
some veteran BBIs that showed a little kindness to this rookie. Thanks to
BBI Camelot, Replay, Skinny Boy, and Laredo!!

Keep up the good work guys (and gals)!!!

I have just seen the Buckaroo Banzai Movie Trailer (downloaded from
"Rafterman") and it rocked. Just playing the theme to the "March/Strut"
around the office has awakened several forgotten Buckaroo fans. Can anyone
out there answer a couple of questions for me...

1) What movie(s) has the Buckaroo Trailer on it as a preview. (i.e.if I
rented some eighties movie like "the Pick-up Artist" could I see the preview
for Buckaroo Banzai?)

2) Does anyone have the 2nd issue to the Buckaroo Banzai comicbook series
released by Marvel for sale? I would be interested in buying it.

3) Anyone have a copy of the novel for sale. ditto

4) Was there any roleplaying games (not video) ever made about Buckaroo.

Thanks a lot

Talk to you all soon

From:	jetlightfoot@juno.com (Becky M Nelson)

Strike Team Renegade, in conjunction with the staff and management of the
Wizard's Wagon, is sponsoring a movie event on April 18, 1999, at the
Wizard's Wagon at 1pm. Details are as follows:

The main feature is _The_Adventures_of_Buckaroo_Banzai_, which will run
immediately after a showing of a 5 minute segment from the video press
kit. This is the HBO version, which is semi-letterboxed -- that is, the
front end of the Jet Car sequence, and the entire end theme sequence are
letterboxed, but the rest of the movie isn't. Go fig.

In keeping with team tradition, there will be a second movie, related to
TABB in some way. This feature will be run first, to permit latecomers to
arrive before the main attraction begins. Anyone wishing to post a guess
as to what this mystery feature will be may send it to BBI Replay; the
first correct guess received from an attendee will be rewarded. (Any
out-of-zone BBIs can guess too; we'll post your name to the web site if
you're right, but that's all you'll get for your trouble, since the prize
can't be e-mailed. Sorry.) In order to keep this fair, all valid
possibilities for the second feature will be movies listed in the IMDB as
cross-matched with a cast member, producer and/or director from TABB. The
movie will be decided by ineligible store personnel on Apr.17, so that
the prize winner can expect to receive the reward the day of the event.

And what's a movie without snacks? Rest assured that munchies will be
available on the premises. If we haven't selected something you're
interested in as part of our little spread, there's several vendors in
the mall itself. A limited number of friendly native guides will be
available to assist those of you in the mall for the first time. There's
also a map board just outside the shop doors for the more adventurous to
consult.

Mid Rivers Mall is located at the Mid Rivers Mall exit off I-70 in St.
Charles County. Contrary to popular belief, the I-70 bridge does NOT take
2 hours to cross; your travel time from the I-70/I-270 interchange should
be around 20 minutes in moderate traffic. Adjust accordingly for other
arteries into St. Charles County if necessary.

The Wizard's Wagon is in the lower level of the mall. We recommend you
park at the Dillard's end of the mall and enter there, as we're right
next door. If you go far enough into the mall to reach the first set of
stairs after leaving Dillards, turn around; you've gone too far.

For further information, or more detailed directions, please contact:

BBI_Replay@yahoo.com
or
JetLightfoot@juno.com

no later than midnight, April 17. Please include a phone number where you
may be reached if posting information requests after April 16, or call
the Wizard's Wagon directly. The phone number is readily available in the
St.Charles County phone book.

And finally, since this really is rather short notice, anyone who's
interested but can't make it should get in touch with us by e-mail
anyhow, as we may be able to schedule something more workable later on.
After all, any excuse for a Banzai party, right?

Hope to see you on the 18th,

Replay
