Greetings,

Something I touched on briefly before, but let it get pushed aside by the
series news:

GNP Crescendo Records has released "Greatest Science Fiction Hits IV", a
collection of themes from science fiction movies and television shows. One
of the themes is the Buckaroo Banzai March by Michael Bodikker, the first
time the music from the cult favorite film has been published. Other themes
on the disk include Hercules, Xena, The Wild, Wild West, Men into Space,
Amazing Stories, Airwolf, The Saint, Saturn 3, Men in Black, X-Files, Babylon
5, a Star Trek suite, and more.

You can order the disk direct from the publisher by calling 1-800-654-7029 or
by visiting their web site www.gnpcrescendo.com.

Happy Thanksgiving,
ArcLight

BladeRunner on DVD now...
I talked to the local covert ops guy (computer geek who knows all-sees all in
the games world) at the brand name computer store locally and he said since
BladeRunner is released now on DVD, that he was told that BB was being
considered as a DVD title release....with exclusive interviews, cuts, etc. as
DVD can handle all that....we shall see.....

Hey y'all

I think I'd like to put my BBI stories up online. Anyone have a
webpage and want to carry them? There are about 20, plus six or seven
snippets from the "other" works of Reno Nevada.

They were written in 1985 I think and circulated around by hand to
some of the folks at the Institute. They're all named after songs, and I
think the only one that ever got printed anywhere was "Nice Day For A
White Wedding" (which drew some praise from Rick Richter, a definite
thrill!). The only one of the Reno bits ever to get printed was the
Perfect Tommy & videogame one. So basically they'll probably be new to
nearly everyone.

The recent Fox news is good indeed, but I wonder if -- fifteen going on 20
years later -- Peter Weller (fine as he was) might not be a bit too old by
now?

Surely I can't be the first to fantasy-recast the roles with contemporary
actors. Has anyone thought of Dean Cain as Buckaroo? He actually is half
Japanese, has experience in action/adventure on tv, looks great in glasses
and so on. Any feedback or other suggestions?

Greatings from the land of ice and snow (Winnipeg Manitoba),

I desided to drop you guys a line after realising just how much this
little movie has affected me.
It happened not to long ago that I was watching the news it seems that
in Ottawa we have a health minster named Penny Priddy (I'm not joking.)
Not to long after that I found out that there is a guy who does the
weather for Envrioment Canada whos name is John Parker

Is it just me or should I lay off the Buckaroo Banzai for a while?

Greetings one and all!

I have been thinking about getting a vanity license plate for my car and
wanted to get a BB relevant plate.

I remember the Jet Car having the plate "HB 88" and the World Watch Bus
as having the plate "ROCKIT 88". But just last night I went to watch
the movie again to make sure, but there was *no* plate on the Jet Car
and the bus had the plate "OHB 294". Now I'm very confused.

Anyone have any idea where I'm getting these plates from? They're not
in the video nor in the novel - did I make them up or was the theatrical
release of the movie different??!?

Some EXTREMELY interesting news was reported to me by Mike
(fantasywriter@home.net) about a possible DVD version of Buckaroo Banzai.
He found the information on the following web site :

The Digital Bits web site (The Internet's Premier DVD Video Information web
site) has an article from 11/14/98 about the Studio Day that took place at
Dave's Video : The Laser Place in Studio City, CA. The web address is
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/studioday98.html. Scroll down to the
part that talks about MGM.

A quick synopsis is as follows : It appears that Polygram now owns the
rights to Buckaroo Banzai and that MGM owns Polygram (or at least some of
the rights that Polygram has acquired). To quote the web page :

"MGM is extremely excited about the DVD possibilities of many of these
titles, and is already planning some very special releases, including fun
stuff like Swamp Thing and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai."

Can you say COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL?

From:	mas@world.std.com (Mark A. Semich)

I've been looking around for the Buckaroo Banzai soundtrack CD and
haven't had much luck. So I have a proposal for anyone on this list who
may already have the CD or know where to get it:

If you have the CD, I will buy it from you for whatever you paid for
it. If you paid $20.00, I'll pay you $20.00 for it. If you paid $90,
I'll buy it off you for $90.

Why would you want to do this? Two reasons:

I have access to CD copying facilities. So in addition to paying you
your original purchase price, I'll also send you an exact, byte-for-byte
digital CD copy of the original. You'll basically end up having a free
soundtrack.

Once I own the CD, I will make a CD copy of it for anyone on this list
who sends me a blank recordable CD and a self-addressed-stamped (with
sufficient postage) padded envelope.

So not only will you have a free soundtrack, but you'll be helping other
Banzai fans everywhere :-)

Once I have made at least one copy of the disk, you may buy it back (for
the same price) if you so desire but you will have no obligation to do
so.

We've had some people at the institute working on this for a while and
are finally pleased to announce the creation of the newsgroup:

alt.fan.buckaroo-banzai

The existance of this newsgroup is to directly address the innumerable
requests we've received from the public. Contrary to what some cynics
may claim, it is in *no way* intended to somehow "replace" this
highly-valued BBI/WW1 internal mailing list. Buckaroo and the rest of
us at the Institute know that this list performs an extremely valuable
function and we hope that it will long continue.

The creation message for alt.fan.buckaroo-banzai just went out this
afternoon (21 November 1998) and will take at least 48 hours to
propogate. If your local news server doesn't carry this group by
November 27th, you may want to contact your news administrator and ask
them that they add it.

There have been a number of subscribers to World Watch OnLine who have
been clamoring for more details of the Banzai Institute and of those
events portrayed in Buckaroo's latest film adventure, "Across the Eighth
Dimension."

We here at the Banzai Institute have been brainstorming for a way to
make this information available to the general public (or more
specifically, to those who would categorize themselves as "fans"), and
have finally found that way:

It will doubtless be charged by cynics that the compilation and
publication of this volume have been done with an eye toward mass sales
and nothing more; that the sensational elements of the case have been
accentuated to serve the public clamor rather than the cause of
accuracy. The truth is otherwise, however, as the most cursory
examination of the facts will reveal. If anything, I have refrained
from using much of the more lurid material on the grounds that it might
invite panic among those unfamiliar with the story or in those of weak
mental fiber. I do confess that in my zeal for getting an overview of
the whole and a sense of perspective, I have found it necessary to
recreate certain situations central to the drama where I could not have
been a witness or where, indeed, no person now living (I use "person" in
the sense of "intelligent being") could have been present. In all other
instances, where possible, I have relied upon eyewitnesses, the
corporate records of Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems, the kindly assistance
of the Nova Police (the Planet 10 equivalent of Interpol), the documents
of the Banzai Institute, and, of course, the Freedom of Information Act
in obtaining U.S. government files. Throughout, I have endeavored to be
as faithful as possible to the events as they actually occurred and
would like the thanks Mrs. E. Johnson, archivist of the Banzai
Institute, for her valued help and her many hours of selfless labor on
behalf of the project... and, of course, Buckaroo Banzai, M.D., Ph.D.

More to follow.
