Greetings,

Got a new URL for the site: http://come.to/BuckarooBanzai

Comedy Central has recently shown TABB again. Haven't
checked any web TV listings yet but it seems like it's
usually on two or three times at a pop.

Next weekend is Hallowe'en, the 60th anniversary of the
Lectroids arriving on Earth. Anyone planning to go as
TABB characters?

I'm gonna try and show up at the S-F Channel's online
convention, so if you happen to see an ArcLight around,
maybe it'll be me.

Later...
ArcLight

I am curious as to who owns the rights to the TABB novel the publisher or
the studio. Getting the novel republished would be a great thing as I
think it is more rare than was reported last time. It may be available by
mail order but I have never seen one at any used book sale, outlet or
convention. Now I don't get to that many conventions anymore so more
copies may be turning up on the used market than before. With so many TV
series turning up as novel series it would seem to be a natural for
merchandising as a novel series. Why would a publisher pick some unknown
property over a known property. I read a borrowed copy and just loved it,
so much stuff that was not in the movie. Is the original author still
alive? The closest thing I have seen in modern fiction, as opposed to a
pulp reprint, was the Zarkon the Unknown series by Lin Carter. Anyone have
recommendations for stuff in the BB vein. An audio tape of the TABB novel
would be neat has it ever been done? The publisher could ground those
out for next to nothing in investment and probably find fans to do the
work for free. A show on public radio would also be a easy way for the
studio to make some fast cash reselling it to tape. They did one for Doc
Savage that was quite successful. I am brand new to Internet stuff and so
really out of touch as well as out of touch with fandom, but what kind of
fan fiction has been done for BB if any? I have seen loads of Dr Who
stuff done this way, obviously illegal as to copy write but the Dark
Shadows fiction appears to be sanctioned as it is sold quite obviously
with the knowledge of Dan Curtis. Johnny Plunkett

**** The FAQ (address at top of page) has a listing of the fanzines
that came out right after the movie, and Strike Team Renegade
(http://www.fortunecity.com/tattooine/gernsback/207/index.html)
has been archiving the fanfiction that I've been serializing here
on the List (speaking of which, send more!). The novel shows up
for auction quite often on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com), as does
the video/laserdisc. Just beware of folks selling homemade
dupes (especially of the workprint) instead of the real thing.

To Whom it may concern,
I am quite interested to join your mailing list. In particular I am
looking to purchase the French BB movie poster (or the original US
version for that matter). Do you know if it is still available? When I
walked into a professor's office in college, he had the original US
poster- posterboard version. Nice.
Part of the appeal of the movie has always been the opening and
closing credit music. I would sit around the keyboard and figure them
out when I was in middle school. (As an aside, the credit music which
plays upon winning the Nintendo game Faxanidu is also great in a BB kind
of way).
What is your take on the not-so-official "official soundracks"? I
would like to get a copy of one. Some guy named 'Mike' is offering
copies. Do you know anything about them?- Linc

**** Though I don't have the URLs handy, several places
on the web sell movie posters, and I've seen both the
French and US posters at them. - ArcLight ****

Hi!

I'm Elizabeth, I recently joined the mailing list. I'm a senior level high
school student, with plans for film school at university. I'm sort of a BIG
movie fan and BB is one of my alltime favorites, as it also has memories
attached to it. I hear a lot about the movie industry here in Toronto and so,
as I rumor I heard only this morning from a friend of mine....

I have heard a rumor regarding the 15th (or is it 10th?) anniversary of BB.

There is a circulating rumor that an anniversary edition cassette will be
released very soon.

Another circulating rumor is that there are plans in the making for the World
Crime League Sequel.

The word on the street is that apparently, the only 2 people from the
original cast who are holding out are Ellen Barkin and Jeff Goldblum. I can
see why Jeff would want to hold out, I'm betting its those CHAPS. but Ellen
Barkin? I dunno.

And that's the word on the street!

Your Truly with Love & Peanuts,

Elizabeth Popiel (fellow movie-maniac and demi-obsessor)

**** Hmm....interesting rumors, though probably just that.
There was some interest in the sequel a while back but
that fell through. Should still be able to read about it
on the Corona web site (http://corona.bc.ca/mainFramed.html).

I was wondering if anyone has commented on Big Trouble in Little China
and its connections to Buckaroo Banzai. They both have that pulp story
feel with a kind of goofy twist. And most importantly, Big Trouble in
Little China is written by TABB director W.D. Richter. Might Richter
have been tempted to try his own hand at the genre after having directed
TABB? Any information or comments would be appreciated.

How are you doing? I was searching the net for Banzai lnks becuse I've been
searching for a copy for like over a year now and can't find one! Is there
any
where that you know of where one could buy a vhs version of the film or have
they all been snagged? Thanks bunch. By the way, I first saw the film when I
was a manager of a Video store. I remeber it coming in at the same time as
two
more of my all time favorite cult classics; Brother from Another Planet and
The Personals. Thanks again!

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy Halloween. This year marks the
60th anniversary of Orson Welles' infamous Mercury Theater broadcast or,
in Banzai terms, the establishment of a Lectroid beachhead in Grover's
Mill, NJ. There's no telling if any Lectroids might plan on celebrating
this diamond anniversary, so be alert: If any trick-or-treaters seem
suspicious, try offering them alkaline batteries instead of candy, and
if anyone knows of a disproportionate number of guys named John filing
Social Security applications in the next few days, do us a favor and let
us all know... :-)

I'm just shifting my address and was hoping to get the list from this
new location.

I also thought I'd mention that I finally got around to sorting through
my old Starlog magazines. Pulled about 4 or 5 feature articles on BB.
If anyone is interested in xeroxes or scans just let me know.
