Greetings,
Sorry so late this time. Tech trouble and schedule conflicts and just life in
general.

One quick request: if at all possible, please keep any email or attachments
sent in HTML free. It freaks out my system and is a bear to get rid of so
the newsletter is readable. Thanks.

If you get this in time, you can catch TABB on Comedy Central today (the 3rd)
at noon eastern, three pacific.

And because Im so late, on with the show...

I've read interviews with Weller, Lithgow and Lloyd and they all had high
praise for it.
Lithgow said only that his experience in 2010 (filmed almost immediately
after BB wrapped,
apparently) was "..odd, because they were treating all the things so
seriously that we'd just
poked fun at in the last movie..". Weller said it was his favourite role
because of all the
different fun things he got to do in it (ride motorcycles, play guitar,
drive fast cars, shoot six
guns, etc,) and then got depressed when his girlfriend said "Sure it's fun,
but what are you
going to do when it's over?" and after a moment, Weller came back with
"Well, there's
always the sequel!"
(I wish.)
Didn't someone say something about BBATWCL was actually starting production
or
something?

Oh, and thanks very much to Sarah Winningham for making the copy of the
musical
score of BB! My apologies if the Canadian stamps were of no use to you. If
I can
return the favour, I will.

I don't know if anyone who owns the book would
be willing to do this, but, what if someone scanned all the pages of the book
into gifs? Someone could then have a site with all the pictures on it. Sure,
it breaks alot of laws and would take a long time, but it would give everyone
a chance to read the ultimate source of BB info. If no one wants to do it,
give me a book and a scanner and I'll do it!!

Dr. Phil Banzai

** Thats further into the land of copyright infringement than Im comfortable
with, but since the books not been commercially available for over a decade,
at least EMR wouldnt actually be losing possible income. If it is done, Id
think making sure the scanner had optical character recognition and making
it into text files would be a much better option, like has been done with
several old pulp stories. Of course, if an extra copy shows up cheap at
a used bookstore or something, perhaps a loan ring could be started, with
folks co-ordinating on mailing it on to someone else once theyre done reading it.
That would be my preference, at least. - ArcLight **

The other night, my roommate, who has yet to see TABB (so busy! so
very very busy!) quoted the "No matter where you go..." line. I looked at
her, astonished and asked her if she'd heard it from me (it's not my most
quoted TABB line but...) and she replied that she'd heard it from someone
else and had always thought it was originally said by Yogi Berra. So my
question is, was it? I don't know of any way to find out and it's tearing
our room apart! (Well, not really, not really that big a deal but it's a
nagging question) So if anyone knows or knows where I could find out, please
let me know.  Thanks.

hey, just wanted to let you know that I've started work on the ULTIMATE
CROSSOVER FANFIC STORY which includes Buckaroo (of course), the successor to
the mantel of The Shadow, the last remaining Green Hornet (anyone who kept up
with the now defunct NOW COMICS series knows what I mean by the last), Kane,
Doc Savage, and Jack Flanders (a modern day radio series hero). It takes
place in the present, soon after the attack on Hanoi Xan which occured in the
rafterman script. Anyway, I hope to have at least some of it done soon so I
can post it either on WWOne or on alt.pulp, easily reached through the
shadow's sanctum web page if anyone wants to look. well that's about it so
later if not before.

Below please find my best attempt:

Buckaroo
Colt Peacemaker (aka Single Action Army)
.45 Colt caliber, 6 round
4 3/4 inch barrel
Brass Frame

(Note: Pg. 161-2 of the Book quotes Reno as saying "They were the Navy Colts he used only when going in search of Hanoi Xan, massive heavy pistols which had belonged to his father.")

Navy Colts (Two models, the 1851 and the 1861)
Both are black powder percussion pistols
Allow me to quote the Colt catalog
"Among the most popular of all Colt cap and ball revolvers, the 1851 Navy ranks second only to the 1849 Pocket in total numbers produced. The 1851 was designed to be an intermediate in size and type between the Dargoon .44 and the 1849 Pocket .31 and was intended mainly for civilian and Navy use. The 1851 Navy is a six shot .36 caliber with a 7 1/2 barrel and a cylinder engraved with the scene of a battle between the navies of Texas and Mexico. At 2 lbs, 10 oz, the 1851 Navy was a muzzle loading revolver lighter than the Dragoon but still fired a hard hitting charge. Thousands of these unites were issued by the US Government after their first bulk purchase in the 1.000 gun contract of July 1855.Total production ultimately exceeded 255,000 unites. This weapon was a personal favorite of Col. Colt himself."

New Jersey
Colt .380 Automatic Model M pocket pistol
.380 ACP (muzzle velocity 970 fps), blowback operated
7 round magazine fed
1.65 lbs loaded

Perfect Tommy
Pistol:
It appears to be a Heckler and Koch P7M8 Pistol
9mm blowback operated, often referred to as a "squeeze cocker" for the unique safety mechanism.
	8 round magazine.
	1.75 pounds
Shotgun:
I think it is a Remington 870 Mark 6.
The stock folds into a top position above the receiver.
12 gauge, pump action
20 inch barrel, 7.53 pounds
5 round tube magazine

Reno
Pistol:
The book quotes him as having a ".45 automatic" (pg. 168). This, of course, refers to John Brownings design of the Colt M1911.
A .45 ACP round (830 fps with government hardball)
	7 round magazine
2.8 pounds
This is, perhaps, the most popular automatic pistol on the planet, and one who's popularity continues to this day.
Rifle:
	British Sterling L2 series submachinegun.
	9mm parabellum (9x19)... (aka 9mm)
	30 round magazine
	Full auto

Scooter
Ruger Mini-14 with folding stock
20 round magazine
.233 (5.56 mm), 3250 fps

Penny Priddy
I'm taking a guess here... looks like a "Baby Browning"
These are pocket pistols, generally .25 ACP caliber
Very small, very light. Designed as carry guns

Rawhide
Wow. Never get a good look at this. Obviously a blued revolver. Appears to have a laynard ring, which would make it a military issue weapon. Perhaps an early Colt New Service?

Bigboote
"Mac 10"
Ingram M10
Probably 9mm
Blowback operated, selective fire (both semi and full auto),cyclic 950 to 1090 rpm.
7.62 pounds
32 round magazine (if 9mm)
Nasty little guns, referred to by my SEAL friends as a "phone booth" gun... in that you had to be inside a phone booth, along with your target, to ensure any hope of hitting the target with the rapid fire rate.

Billy
M16A1
.233 (5.56 mm)
20 or 30 round magazine
Note: This weapon still has the old furniture (front stock) of the triangular (or beaver grip) design. It has since been replaced in Military Service by the upgraded model.

Casper
Street Sweeper 12 gauge revolving magazine shotgun.

Rasta Drummer
The ubiquitous Uzi submachine gun.
9mm, 30 round magazine

Note: Quite an eclectic assortment of firearms. Interesting to note that the weapons they choose are all a little off the beaten path. Generally, SWAT teams and Special Forces prefer to utilize the Heckler and Koch MP5 series of submachineguns (SMGs), due to their dependability, reliability and accuracy. These same groups also generally use Sig Sauer or Heckler and Koch pistols (though I'm told that the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, aka HRT, use the .45 M1911A1 made by springfield).

Misc.

Buckaroo plays a Fender Stratocaster, blond body with Maple neck
Pinky plays a Fender P-bass, white body with black pickguard
Perfect Tommy plays a Gretsch Hollow body electric.

** Looks like a pretty good effort to me. Im sure if anyone has any debate
about it, theyll write in and we can hammer it out. Any excuse to watch the
film again, right? - ArcLight **

Hola Amigos,

Just wanted to drop you a quick note about some stuff:

I've revamped and redesigned my entire Banzai Institute site,
added a bunch of new images, sounds, and, get a load of this:
VIDEO clips. Right now two clips are available for download:
-The original BB theatrical trailer and
-The opening scene from the BB directors cut showing the death of
Buckaroo's parents at the hands of Hanoi Xan.

Hope all you Irregulars who haven't seen these yet will swing over
to the Institute and check them out:

I also have plans to archive Relayer's site when he takes it down
so that we can all continue to enjoy it. Relayer has given me his

in this endeavor.

Hi,
I'd like to subscribe to the Buckaroo Banzai Institutes mailing list. I have
been a fan of the film for several years now. I have copies of the two
original Buckaroo Banzai comic books, and my own pair of "bubble stuff"
glasses with which to watch holograms. I tend to look strangely at all men
with the first name "John" because they may not be human at all. I also feel
cheated--there should have been more BB films. Where are the superheroes when
you need them? Superman was an alien, Batman suffered from multiple
personalities, and SpiderMan was a mutant. Banzai, on the other hand, was a
well educated, cultured, multi-faceted personality who still finds time for
surgery and rock and roll. The ultimate in heroes! I am grateful to find that
others still remember him too.

Thanx,
Xandria

time and space and scifi games, movies, and games (The "Cats" From the

FINALLY I know, I've been bad, I apologize, yadda yadda. Here it is
anyway--

Diane Cantwell (reddi@sirius.com)

"Buckaroo Banzai" and related characters and concepts are copyright ??? (or at least, that's what we think ...). The story, on the other hand, is copyright 1997-98 and possibly into the next millennium by me, that is BBI Red Di ("Chicago Red's second cousin") (reddi@sirius.com), and cannot be re-distributed or archived anywhere without askin' me nice first. This story may contain language and action which some may find PG-13; I'll try to keep it at that level. Not being entirely familiar with the complete BB Institute background, Red Di welcomes any helpful comments about what happened when and where.

This story is set after the return of Peggy/Penny as documented in Ernest Cline's screenplay for "Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League", in which Penny is revealed to be Peggy (sorry, hope that didn't spoil it for everyone).

With apologies for tardiness, here is : "The Whisper, Or: The Fanfic That Ate San Francisco"

(Copies of earlier chapters may possibly be found in the Archives, definitely by writing RedDi@sirius.com)

Chapter 4, Part 2

Buckaroo was already out the side door of the Institute and creeping around the side of the building towards the van as Rawhide rattled off orders to the others, all of them hurrying down the hallway of the Bunkhouse. "Perfect Tommy, you and New Jersey take the gate. No one comes or goes. Call Pinky now! Reno, Pecos, you take the van with me and Buckaroo." He caught sight of Big Norse having a cup of coffee in the kitchen. "Big Norse! Get to the front door and distract that water delivery guy. It's a Code 7, sweetheart, so let's shake a leg."
She nodded quickly, hurrying towards the service entrance.
"Okay, they're gonna be armed, so let's watch our backs. New Jersey, you cover Tommy and Reno, you watch for Pecos. I'll keep an eye on Buckaroo." Rawhide touched the send button on his go-phone. "Buckaroo, where are you, partner?"
"I'm about ten yards from the van. They don't know they were spotted. I have to say this stinks of something fishy, so keep an ear and an eye open." Buckaroo darted a quick glance around the grounds; something was bothering him, and it was the choice of Chicago Red for a kidnap victim. It hit him. He hit his send button now. "Hey, Rawhide? Get two people back inside now. Have them find Chang now. I think it's him they're really after. This grab was too visible to be real."
Rawhide shook his head in wonder as they all reached the side door. "Hey, Pecos, you keep an eye on Big Norse from the background. Don't let her or the delivery guy see you. In fact, don't let anyone see you, period. Reno, Tommy, go find Chang and do the same. This may be a whaddyacallit----"
	"Red herring?" New Jersey offered.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Okay, call in your signals if you need back-up." Rawhide waved to New Jersey with his free hand. "Okay, New Jersey, let's you and me find Buckaroo and get that gal outta that van."
They exited the building as quickly and quietly as they could, the others taking off on their own as they were told. They soon joined Buckaroo near the van. "Okay, Buckaroo," whispered Rawhide, "Big Norse is trying her best to keep the delivery guy distracted. I figure we got two, maybe three minutes. What's the best way to do this?"
"Well, there's two in the van with her. They're both in the back and I have to assume one of them is watching the mirrors," Buckaroo said. "We need a loud noise from the gate so that we can take the rear and side doors without them knowing we're coming."
Rawhide immediately called to Pinky on the go-phone. "Pinky, this is Rawhide. We got a Code 7 here."
"I know. Reno just called and told us not to let anyone in or out," came the reply.
"We need a noise. In about thirty seconds."
	"A noise?" Pinky asked.
"Have ArcLight toss one of those mini-explosives over the wall if it he's got one. Never mind, I'm sure he does."
	"Okay, thirty seconds and counting."
Buckaroo spoke quickly now. "Okay, Rawhide, you and New Jersey take the side. I've got the rear. Remember, we run as soon as Arc Light tosses the explosive, pull the doors as soon as you get there. Don't give them a chance to see you. Try to take them alive but don't take any unnecessary chances. New Jersey, I want you to cover Rawhide."
The other two men nodded, and it was then that the explosion sounded.

* * *

"What was that?" Reno asked as he and Perfect Tommy headed down the hallway towards the computer lab, in search of Will Chang. The sound of the explosive was not expected, and Reno was wondering if they should head back outside to back up Buckaroo.
"Keep going. They'll call us if they need us. Besides, it was too small to be serious," replied Tommy. "Probably a diversion. Where do you think - "
Reno held up his hand for a moment and cocked his head, listening intently. "Shhh-" He gestured upwards, towards the air duct; someone was up there. Perfect Tommy nodded, and they were off. They had to get to the lab first.

* * *

At the sound of the explosion, Buckaroo, Rawhide and New Jersey were off. Buckaroo took the back door and said a mental prayer to the Fates that the door had not been locked. He was aware that Rawhide and New Jersey were doing the same as he heard the side door slide open at the same moment the back door pulled open. Buckaroo stepped to the side as the door opened, then swung around low facing the inside of the van, his gun drawn.
The two men inside the van seemed prepared for this. New Jersey and Rawhide took similar positions, all three guns pointed inside the van. Inside the van, there was only one gun drawn, but its position was key. It was set close to the side of the drugged Chicago Red's head.
"Okay, back off, and back off now," directed the holder of the gun. His assistant seemed startled and confused.
Buckaroo lowered his gun. "Rawhide, New Jersey, back off now."
The other two men lowered their guns slowly. The man with the gun to Chicago Red's head directed calmly, "Now, you get on that phone of yours and tell them to open the gates for us when we're through. One trick move, though, and she's history."
It was then that New Jersey, who was keeping a close eye on the positioning of the gun at Chicago Red's temple, noticed something strange. One of her eyes opened very slyly, and an almost imperceptible grin twitched at a corner of her mouth. She saw New Jersey then, and winked once quickly. Unnoticed, he made a small signal to Rawhide to be ready. He had barely done so when Red's right hand flashed upwards and grabbed the man's gun-holding hand, her good leg kicking up and cracking him hard on the skull. She had little problem getting the gun away and rolling away from him as Buckaroo swiftly took the other man down, jumping in the van and delivering a kick that sent him to the floor of the van. Rawhide grabbed the man kicked by Chicago Red and easily wrestled him to the ground outside, calling on the go-phone for back-up once the man's hands were secured behind his back. New Jersey helped Chicago Red as she tried to sit up against the wall of the van. "You okay?" he asked.
"Aces," she replied, one hand holding her injured leg. "Pulled a few stitches, though. I played possum most of the time, but they shot me up with something in my room and it's got about one or two minutes before knocking me out completely. Find out what it was because it's really making me feel funky." One eye seemed to have trouble staying open as she spoke, and she seemed to have great trouble getting the words out.
"Sure, don't sweat it. Just relax, we've got you."
"I don't think I have much choice other than to relax," she sighed now. "These guys are really starting to piss me off. Can I kick him again please?"
Rawhide chuckled and New Jersey said, "I don't think you can walk too well right now, let alone kick."
"Try me," she grumbled before her eyes shut completely. "Can't stay -" Then she was out.
Buckaroo asked the man he had pinned in the van, "Okay, what did you guys give her?" No response. "New Jersey, there's a bag over there, next to Red's bag. Grab it and take her and it to the Institute clinic now, okay? Rawhide, I'll keep watch on these two. You cover New Jersey and try to get in touch with Reno and Perfect Tommy. Remember, we don't know what's going on out there or how many more of these guys are on the grounds." The only thing he was sure of was he was glad that Peggy was out running errands right now, and not on the grounds.
"Sure thing, Buckaroo." New Jersey picked up Chicago Red and the bag as instructed, and Rawhide drew his gun, covering them as they headed off towards the Institute.
