Hello!
I've noticed a lot of folks asking about how to obtain the movie. I
have sold used copies of the book and the movie from time to time, as I find
them. If anyone is interested, I'd be more than willing to make Hi-Fi Stereo
VHS copies of the movie from my laserdisc. To cover the costs of tape,
envelope, and postage, I'm only asking for $10.00 per tape. (If you think I
can get rich at this price, you're crazier than Lizardo!!!)
If the movie were in print and easily available, I'd refrain from
doing this. But with the strong interest out there, and unavailability of
the video, I figure this is the next best option to selling used copies as I
find them. Feel free to email me at Walkm@aol.com.
In the meantime....still hoping for a miracle ( a sequel!!!)

Hello fellow Irregulars,

I don't know how many of you out there are fans of the computer animated
show called Reboot. Considering that it's third (and best) season has yet
to be picked up in the USA, it'll have been a couple years at least since
those south of the border have seen it. However, the fine folks
responsible for Reboot have also done a Reboot IMAX ride. This is one of
those wraparound screen things with the motion simulator seats. The ride
is *spectacular*. I went to see it for a second time last week and
noticed, almost hidden behind some buildings in the background, was a large
electronic billboard with the BB logo on it! :) Wahoo!!! :) What a riot!
:) I was so pleased that there were fans among the animators responsible
that I had to share it. The likelihood of the IMAX ride being distributed
Stateside is far more likely than the show getting airtime at this point.
Go check it out for a fun time.

Later!

Regarding John Lithgow's support or embarrassment of his role in the
movie, I'm sure the interview someone saw was his way of laughing at the
whole experience of being in such a wierd movie. I have to believe he has a
fondness for this character, because he recreated it on Saturday Night Live.
I distinctly remember John hosting the show a year or so after the movie came
out, and there he was! Hair on end, army trenchcoat and crazed Italian
accent. I think they even called him Dr. Lizardo. I believe he was a guest on
the news segment, or very possibly the opening segment. Either way, he was on
some crusade of somekind with nuclear weapons or something. So, anyone who
wants to re-create the character on SNL can't hate the film too bad! If
anyone else can remember this broadcast or how to see it again, let me
know.

any reliable place to find out *which* repeats are on when? - ArcLight <<

I have just returned from the South By Southwest Film Festival in
Austin, Texas, and got to screen a film you people are going to love. It's
called "Six String Samauri", and is directed by a guy named Lance Mungia. The
star (and co-writer with Mungia) is Jeffery Falcon, a funny guy with
incredible martial arts skills.

The whole story is a post-apocalyptic alternate world where rock and roll
rules and a new king must be crowned in the city of "Lost Vegas". Buddy, the
"Six String Samauri" must hack and kick his way through a variety of Mad-Max
styled villians to get his guitar and a young boy safely to Vegas, across the
trecherous wateland surrounding it. The story is less sophisticated than
Buckaroo's, but the spirit is the same. The cinematography is some of the
best ever shot for this kind of campy genre, so it's a great pleasure to
watch. And it has some of the best lines in it! (Thug: "If I were you, I'd
start runnin'!" / Buddy: "If you were me, you'd be good lookin'.")

I'm telling you, if you love stuff like Buckaroo and "Big Trouble In Little
China", you'll love this thing! I'm not sure how it's being distributed, but
it definitely will be in the near future (heck, there's even a comic book and
video game in the works). So check it out. If Buckaroo needs a new Cavalier,
he'd do no better than Buddy.

>> Ive not seen the flick myself, but from the write-ups it got on
the Aint It Cool News Site
(http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com)
and the info on its own site
(http://www.asiaonline.net.hk/~falconweb/SIX_STRING.html)
it looks pretty darn nifty. Im certainly going to check it out ASAP. - ArcLight <<

Hey everyone!!

I was just wondering if anybody has any information on Lewis Smith -the guy
who played Perfect Tommy. I thought he was great in BB and just wanted to
see if he was working on anything currently. I checked the Internet Movie
Database, but there was only a list of other movies he's been in. I also
checked most of the Buckaroo Banzai pages, but they weren't much help either.
So any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks for your time!!

Folks,

I've never heard that they've been embarrassed. In fact, BB was
mentioned in the episode of the Larry Sanders show where Jeff Goldblum
was a guest. One of the characters was telling him how much she
enjoyed his movies and started to list them off. When she said BB,
Goldblum said (something like) "Ah yes, Buckaroo, Rawhide, Penny
Priddy.. I wonder where they are now?"

It was pretty funny.

Greetings!

Thanks for the recent update. I am a recent member and and really happy to
connect with others who love Buckaroo as I do. I would like to know where I
can get a copy of the video because I have to rent it every time I want to
watch, which leads to large rental fees! I would also be happy to harrangue
(in the nicest way possible of course!) whomever would be responsible for
re-releasing this masterpiece to video. Just let me know!

I can be reached at mack2@svol.org It's my work email as I am currently
computer-less at home.

Hey Fellow BBI's:

In answer to JimUSA, Yes They're supposed to be colt .45's. They're
PROBABLY Ruger Superhawk .44 magnums, which bear an incredible likeness.
Most westerns use them, as they're a lot easier to get.

P.S. In response to ArcLight's request (and considering EVERYTHING he does
for us, and how WELL he does them!, we should ALL try to fulfil his
requests) I should have a fanfic story ready in the next month or so.
Hopefully you'll find it as fun and exciting to read as I'm having writing
it!

I have received many inquiries about my "BanzaiSGI" online name....so,
here goes...
I was in the Air Force Special Operations/Air Commando for 20 years. I
retired in 94. My call sign/handle was Banzai. The SGI comes from Stray Goose
International, a band of brothers who serve(d) in the Pacific regions from
Vietnam days to the present. We fly strange and wonderous aerial machines and
work with professionals who use their skills only for the fight against evil
(ok, so give me some space to have fun...I paid my dues at Desert One Iran
and other locales....). Keep up the good work in the traditions of Buckaroo
and remember- no matter where you go, there you are!

As you asked at little about myself and why I like BB so much.

Well I am 30 so I really grew up in the 80's, that decade was
like no other. It seemed that anything was possible, from the
space shuttle to test tube babies. In the harsh world of today,
guess I grew up too, from gang violence to terrorist attacks
(these were around in the 80's but not to the extent they seem
to be today), the BB movie offers a world where anything is
possible. It shows that common people want to join togather to
make a better world. When I look back on this film now, it lets
me dream of 80's and reminds me that everything starts with a
dream and if everyone works togather the world can be a better
place.

JimUSA asked about Buckaroo's guns.

If I recall correctly, the novel listed them as Colt Navy's.

(Colt Navy's were the sidearm of wild bill Hickcock. Designed just before
the civil war in 1850's ...They are black powder percussion guns... no
metallic cartriges like current guns. You load the black power, then seat
a lead ball and add a percussion cap... )

In the film, however, he uses a Colt Single Action Army. These are the
guns usually seen in hollywood cowboy movies. John Wayne carried one.
These are single action (e.g. you must manually pull the hammer back to
fire) and fire a 45 caliber ( .45 of an inch wide) bullet. The cartridge is
a .45 long colt (vs. the .45 ACP used in the 45 automatic). They come in
a variety of barell lengths. Buckaroo's barell is as long as the extractor
rod, which makes it (if memory serves) about 4 3/4 inches long.

Another side note... when he's emptying the shells in the basement of the
institute, Peter Weller is shaking the pistol to remove the empties. This
is not the correct way to unload the brass. The extractor rod is used to
push out the empties. The shells expand slightly upon firing and ususally
require the positive action of pushing out the empties. But Peter does
handle the Colts nicely, I particularly like the spin behind the back as he
changes hands after meeting up with Jeff Goldblums character in the depths
of Yoyodyne.

Buckaroo's holster is the traditional hollywood cowboy holster. The pattern
is a modified traditional " Mexican" style holster in black.

Wow. Sorry for the long explanation. I've got a Colt single action and
they're quite a hoot to shoot.

Each character had a different gun. If anyone is interested (HA! not after
this explanation)... I'll write down character and gun. What's so funny
about peace, love and understanding?

Hi folks,

In 1986, me and about 200 of my closest friends congregated out on a farm
to gawk at Halley's Comet. To pass the time between stargazing and
freezing our butts off waiting for the damn thing to show up we watched
whole heap of videos. Now, Buckaroo Banzai was a movie that I had very
much wanted to see but it came and went so fast at the theatres that I
missed it. Well, someone with obvious taste had managed to get hold of
the video that night and when I sat down to watch it I was instantly
captivated.

Not long afterwards I wrote to a mob in the states going by the name of
World Watch One - don't tell me it was you guys? I got a reply to my
letter but please don't ask me to remember any names or even which part
of the states they were from. There were a couple of newsletters enclosed
and some other stuff as well but I really can't remember any of the
details anymore. Although I think I still have the newsletter(s)
somewhere around the place I would have to mount a major search and
rescue operation in order to find it(them) just now.

Anyway, the postal service being what it is (and even worse back then) I
soon gave up trying to stay in contact (in fact, I gave up after only my
third try because I just wasn't getting any responses back after the
first one - though it was probably more the post office's fault than the
people I was writing to).

Over the years I guess I kind of lost interest in keeping up with these
sort of things but when I found this site on the net the other night I
couldn't resist contacting you because I still love the movie very much
and I love the whole philosophy that has been built up around it. Also,
I'm curious to know whether you guys *are* the same people I wrote to 11
years ago, or not. So, how long have you been in this game?

Anyway, just add me to your list ... I think I'd like to see what's
happening with Buckaroo and the boys these days (in an unofficial
capacity that is, since I know there is never going to be another movie).

Well, keep the torch burning and remember: 'No matter where you go, there
you are.' (To someone like me who is interested in philosophy that is a
*very* profound statement.)

Oh yeah, I almost forgot - you can call me A A Cato, or just plain A A if
you like.

      Sweet Dreams

Hello out there in electronic land!
Just a quick note to ask if anyone has copies of the Buckaroo Banzai book
they want to sell; I'm having great luck matching up fans with copies
through my book web site, but I'm running out. I'm also interested in
buying any other Banzai stuff anybody wants to part with, but I don't
always have time to pick out the individual offers made in each World
Watch. I'm also paying cash or trading for ANY Blade Runner stuff and for
old toys... e-mail me when you do your spring cleaning!
Conversely (and perversely), if you are seeking the Banzai book or whatever
else, let me know and I will put you on THE LIST for when I come across it,
or set you up with somebody who writes and offers me one.
Okay, fess up, have any fans made the trip to see Weller and Goldblum play
live? If so, please take the time to post a review, I think we'd all love
to hear about it.
Lastly, I had always heard that everybody involved in the making of BB
retained a warm soft fuzzy spot for it... maybe there is a professional
embarassment about being involved in a film with no box-office profit, but
I've never heard of anybody talking down about it publicly... anybody else?
Well, that's it...

Greetings fellow Banzai fans,

My name is Joey Wensel I'm 25 years old and live in Winnipeg,Manitoba.
I first remember seeing The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai on a fuzzy
black and White T.V.on our local Pay Television Station. (That was
before they got very good at scrambling the signal.)

I had turned the movie on in the middle so I had no idea what it was
that I was watching but I thought it was pretty cool.
It wasn't until about a week later that I found out what that half of a
movie was that I watched and the rest as they say was history.
I must have watched this movie every time it was on pay T.V. and I am
guilty of dragging a friend to watch it whenever it is shown at
Winnipeg's local Science Fiction convention Keycon.

I enjoyed this movie because it was fun. The heroes were larger than
life and the villains were evil and the good guy got to kiss the girl
and ride off into the sunset.

Anyway I hope to hear from other Buckaroo Banzai fans out there.
And remember: No matter where you go there you are.

My thanks to the kind gentlman who informed us of Dr.s Banzai and
Zweibel's Monday night appearances at the Lucky Seven. I did attend this
past Monday, unfortunately Dr. Banzai was not in evidence, doubtless duty
called him to Tibet to battle the insidious menace of Hanoi Xan. Dr.
Zweibel however was most gracious to us, he posed for some archival
footage and even did us the honor of singing Since I Don't Have You in Dr.
Banzai's absence. In true BBI fashion he was polite, amusing, and
affectionate to everyone, not to mention a damn fine jazz pianist, and
invited audience members to sit in for many of the musical numbers. IT is
heartening to see that Dr. Zweibel has overcome his initial shyness and
insecurity to become quite the ladies' man. I definitely reccomend that
anyone in the area attend every Monday night they are able to, despite the
fairly overpriced menu.
