Greetings,

Well...it's past that time again so here's number #41. Next is the
Ultimate Answer ish, but unfortunately, that's the wrong fandom, so
no special mention of the event will be made.

A couple of decent concerns and some bad news this ish.
And maybe some good news. I've revived the webring. See
the new page at the World Watch OnLine site (URL above) to
check it out.

Tried to use my old HTML assistant program to strip the HTML from
this ish, and it ended up stripping portions of some of the posts. I think
I fixed it all, but if you notice something you wrote missing a sentence
(or word or paragraph or whatever) let me know and I'll repost next
ish.

Seems a bit longer than usual this time. Hopefully it causes no
mailers to choke.

Later...

In issued #40, washu@teleport.com said:

batch for anyone who missed out the first time...

I guess I have to agree with Apaches note in the last WWO and hope that you
are not selling these for profit. Legitimate collectables like the video,
books, comics, headbands, etc. are one thing. That is why they are there. But
to SELL copies of the rough cut and the CD is (lets face it) illegal. Legal,
licensed copies of these items never existed. I wont ask where you got your
copy of the rough cut, but I can tell you precisely where the very first
pirated copy came from because I was there and it was an accident. I will bet
your parent copy is a descendant of that original bastard offspring.

But those who know me would accuse me of hypocrisy if I didnt add (and they
still might, huh L.F.?) that Im not against the free distribution of these
things to enthusiastic, supportive fans. They exist. It's clear 20th Century
Fox doesnt give a lectroids abdomen about the stuff or the film. They might
as well be shared.

Almost no one (and you know who you are) is a bigger fan of this film than I
am. Put simply, it changed my life. I just felt the fans should be aware of
the facts. This isnt meant as a personal attack or flame. If these are
being distributed for an amount sufficient to cover expenses, that is great.
I believe it can only help a fandom that I frankly thought would be dead 10
years ago. But, thanks to things like this newsletter (and folks like
washu@teleport.com who are making hard-to-find items available), Banzai
fandom is still alive and healthy.

Lets keep it that way.

Sharkey

** I was hoping someone would chime in on Apache's comments.
On a personal level, I pretty much agree with what's already been
said here. If all you're selling is copies of something, you shouldn't
be charging more than reasonable materials/postage.
But I know there's some stuff out there I'd be willing to pay more for,
so what do I know? Just remember, some of the folks on this very list
worked awfully hard to create some of the stuff being bandied about
and quite rightly take it personal when what they did out of love
is being used soley to line someone else's pockets. - ArcLight **

Howdy and salutations, Brothers (and Sisters)!

From a devotee of Doc and the boys and the most Honorable
Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers (the most well-armed
rock band in history).

First, for any who doubt, BB, "Big Trouble in Little China" and the
"Back to the Future" movies all take place in the same universe. High
weirdness is loose on their Earth, Lo Pan never trusted that upstart
Hanoi Xan, and, as young physics undergrads, Buckaroo's dad and Prof.
Hikita met Dr. Clark Savage, Jr. when he was teaching a seminar on the
physics which support the theory of alternate universes. After the
seminar, Buckaroo's dad and the Prof. had to break up a near-fist fight
between a student named Brown and a foreign student named Lizardo who
were literally coming to blows over details of developing
a device for warping time and space. They all went their separate ways,
but the seeds were planted, and roads which diverge eventually converge
again.

Anyway...

For those of you who live in the LA area, here, reproduced completely
from the LA Times Weekend Section of 2/26/98, is a little secret that
some of us have known for quite some time:

THE BUCKAROO BANZAI BAND

Where else but Hollywood can you go to hear a couple of actors play jazz
while you shovel down a pile of mashed potatoes? Lucky Seven, a new
supper club on Vine Street (in the former Vine Street Bar & Grill
space), offers cover-free musical entertainment and serves dinner until
1 a.m. The food is American and, on Monday nights, the guys playing
keyboard and horns are, respectively, Jeff Golblum and Peter Weller.

Lucky Seven, 1610 Vine St., Hollywood (213) 463-7777

They've been doing this for years. Go there, be polite and respectable
(would Buckaroo expect anything less than mannerly civility at all
times?) and enjoy. Fill the place every Monday night, then start a
publicity campaign to the newspapers, radio and TV stations (especially
Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, etc.) and prove to them that
there is a following (and money) that will support a BB sequel. This is
a great opportunity, and these guys are GREAT!

Go. Listen. Enjoy. (But don't devolve into fanboy harranguing or dopey,
embarassing behavior. Remember, these are people, not characters, with
real lives, who only PLAYED Buckaroo and New Jersey.
Be respectful, please. It's what Buckaroo would expect of you.)

I am sure that this is widely known, but, just in case it is not, for I have
not seen reference to it in the FAQ's.(Things still do get overlooked
everywhere)
Starland has a signifigant quantity of Banzai merchandise in stock. For
example they have a wide variety of T- Shirts, including the 10th aniversery
shirt and the excuse shirt. There are almost all of the patches that I
remember seeing at the con's in years gon by. And finally, the poster of
Buckaroo onstage, as well as the postcard set mentioned in the FAQ.
Just thought you might like to know fans. Hope it was helpful.

The Station is approx 4.3MB, and includes everything plus the WAD, the VRML

better ^-^

It's been good; it's been real... starting from early 1995, watching the
growing it's been real... starting from early 1995, watching the
growing of the BBI network... too bad we lost the first counter; with it
added, as of this date, almost 40,000 people have entered the doors of the
Station (and this counter doesn't count repeat visits). Thanks to all the
folks who sent in a Registry; one of my favorite parts maintaining the
Station was reading the mail. Recomposing the Team March was great, as was
trying to freeze frames fast enough to get all the texture and depth in
TABBATED and to spotlight the work of all those fabulous unsung propmasters
and makers.

ArcLight's doing a great job fanning the flame and keeping it together; far
better than this poor ole dataminer. Be sure to get on the World Watch One
mailing list. That's the focus now. And go to Rafterman's site too; you'll
be way glad you did.

If i helped at all to provide info, signposts or just the confirmation that
you are not alone, then i did a job i am proud of and wouldn't hesitate to
submit it to Buckaroo for evaluation.

Don't be mean; we don't have to be mean. Cause, remember: no matter where
you go.... there you are.

Don't embarrass us.

the news in breif. Mara is XO of the cobras and welcome Johnny D, and
a fight resovled is what has happend.. Ok due to a conflict of
interests with another receipant of this news letter I think I said
this before BUT IF I haven't the following images are partially mine
on the viper strike force home page the comic scans, the ID4 scans,
the video box scan and a little bit of the Buckaroo SWCCG card the
rest partially belong to Arc (thanks for them) and I think relayer I
bumed a few off of you... I think :| the sounds the metallica Mids I
got them some where, as with the others I'm not sure where I got them
except the mid of "Since I don't have you" which I retooled and got
off of Relayer.. thanks the wav of BB doing the "Quote" is 50% MINE
and the other half belongs to "The BANK In Netherland" I made it, The
Real Audio File well here's how I got it made.. I downloaded that
version of the "Team march" off of Ernie C. who got it off of Ice
Queen ... who got it off of the E.P. where it came from I don't know.. then
with a few hours of dowloadin and such and some toying around I made
the aforementioned file. The Real Audio of Queen came about the same
way sorta don't ask don't tell OK??
... All Scans and files that have been named in this post that have been either constructed (scanned or whatever) or enhanced (see Real Audio files and midi
and BB card) can be used and hosted by any site owned and operated by
any party that recieves this news letter. One the conditions that must be met A. NO
Profit (NOT ONLY will it hurt you but "THE BANK" may decide it's
gonna pull a Paramont Job like with the Star Trek sites... I don't
want that! DO YOU??) B. This is very IMPORTANT cuz I (Fanatic) did
the work to get some of that stuff and paid for it also. So this is
the little simple thing need to be done Say "thanks Fanatic for the
scan" of something of that sort... simple huh?? IF I find out you
didn't do that I'll hunt you down and beat you with a wet piece of
pasta then try to behead you with another piece of wet pasta..
Got it??
...ok sorry about the rant.. ok I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for
anyword form any source on movies on the web about (Rafterman's)
optioned movie...nothing yet.. and has anybody got a DVD-ROM yet?? the drive that
Creative Labs makes is pretty cool... that's all in the news and
such.. D'oh! I almost forgot but soon I'm gonna come up with a add-in
to ID4 for BB and Crew to whoop some Alien Arse! well till next time
and stuff
laters
Fanatic
PS "No Matter ...Ya know that line"

** Well...another concern brought to slightly edited life. Obviously, there's
a lot of "borrowing" done all over the web. Fanatic himself admits right
here that he's got stuff snagged from places he doesn't even remember.
But he brings up what I think is a decent point: if you're going to take
stuff from other sites, I think it's not too hard to, at the very least, mention
where it came from. Just seems polite. Easy to forget, especially
if it's a file you've had sitting on your harddrive for months before
deciding to use, but I think as good BBIs we can make the effort. And if
you do notice some stuff that's definately from your site on another page,
a quick, polite, email is usually enough to clear the air.
Handle it like two reasonable beings. And don't be mean...

There are several references to his holster and to "six guns"

Just wondering....

Salutations, Great Buckaroo Banzaites...

By way of intro, I'm an avid sci-fi enthusiast that has searched off
and on for a copy of Earl Mac Rauch's book for at least 8 years! The
movie so intrigued me with its persuasive undercurrent of a tale that
had it's roots in reality, that I desperately wanted to read the
original story. Which brings me to the point of my email.

Where, oh where, might I be able to obtain a copy of this elusive novel?
Or are there any more to be found? I'm willing to pay a very fair price
for a copy. Failing that option, are there any BB regulars that would
be willing to sell their copy or even allow me to borrow it with
whatever assurances for its safe return that may be required?

Thanks for your consideration and I greatly look forward to your
response.

Greetings!

I was just checking to see if people were interested in Buckaroo Banzai
still. My husband & I watched it around 1984 when I belive it came out.
We were hooked. Our kids are now 11 & 9. They still are looking for a
sequel.

I wanted to share a thought about some of the players. I saw an interview
with John Lithgow where he was so embarrassed about that movie. Neither
Peter Weller nor John Lithgow will acknowledge that movie. Ironically,
those were the best performances the have ever done! now look at John. . .
3rd rock from the son? like thats a far reach???

I think Jeff Goldblum and "Perfect Tommy" were the only ones that really
understood that this was not a serious flick!

I wanted to ... see if you might know
where to get a copy of the movie?? I have a bad copy from HBO. Also, in
regards to the sound bites, how about Lizardo saying "Sealed with a curse
as sharp as a knife, doomed is your soul and damned is your life!" ( or is
that backwards? ) or "home is were you hang you hat" or "hey, whats in
the pink box?" thanks for the great site!

Thank,
Sharon Corrao

** Well, this is the first I've heard of any of the principals being
"embarassd" about being in the film. Anyone else hear of such a thing,

From:	jetlightfoot@juno.com (Becky M Nelson)

Greetings!

I've finally found the time to update a list I started for the strike
team here prior to a convention last October. Folks were having
difficulty finding appropriate tags to go by and wanted to avoid
selecting something already in use. Unfortunately, I knew there were more
names floating around out there than were in the Registry at that point.

So, I started looking at my own references as well as the Registry
listings. Most of the tags I have on file are in fact from the Registry
(408), but there are a significant number which I found in my 'zines, the
2 issues of the paper World Watch One I have, and of course, your own
newsletter (186) for a total of 594 as of 3/17/98.

I know it's not complete. For one thing, I only have partial copies of
some of the 'zines (the original of one was stolen before I had a working
backup made, for example) and there's more than a few issues of the paper
newsletter I've never seen. Even so, we think it's at least some
improvement over the Registry in terms of simplicity of use -- there's
nothing here to speak of but "names". Certainly it's much faster to
check.

I'd like to get this thing in circulation at some point. Hopefully it'll
show up on someone's website eventually -- ours when we get one up or
someone else's sooner -- but at the moment, it's available by e-mail
(providing folks have a mailer that can handle 600+ lines; I know at
least one guy who doesn't. Poor schmuck).

And if you know of someone who might volunteer space on their web site,
let me know -- or post this to the next ish and we'll see what happens.
