Greetings,

Victimized by some sort of germ warfare this weekend.
Between a summer cold hitting me AND a stomach virus
thing floating around, I'm sure there's a sinister
purpose behind it all.

Still no scanner but I managed to throw together a
calendar for this month anyway. URL is up at the
top. Something fitting for the hottest month of the
year (in the Northern Hemisphere at least) I think.

Later...

I'm looking for a scanner with neg/slide copy capability also. Let me know if
anyone has opinions on the best one affordable out there.

Why would anyone want to copy the novel or film when all you have to do is
take the Yoyodyne Synthetic Memory Module Pill and everything is there in
living color?
Jim/BanzaiSGI.......
OOPS....You can get the Pill online at the BB
Auction.....................lol

Is there any way to get in touch with the author and see if he is interested
in releasing
an online or equivalent version? Looking at the success Stephen King is
having
releasing his books online this may be the next best thing.

I look at it like this, the man is still alive and he is trying to jumpstart
the franchise so
what do we have to loose by asking politely? Whether we want to bring up the
fact
his book is asking for an obscene amount of money on e-bay is a subject for
debate.

Within another couple of weeks I think there will be a solution to the novel
scan issue. I haven't got the details ironed out yet but if everybody's very
very quiet, and doesn't make any sudden moves to scare her off, a
friend-of-mine-who-wants-to-be-nameless type will hopefully put this whole
thing to rest. Now just everybody be real still like and don't spook her, and
if nothing pops up in the next 14 days somebody drop me a line and remind
me...

Dear BBI's

I am sorry to have to say this but I'm going to have to resign from egroups.

Why? you ask? simple - yahoo is taking it over and I have had several
disputes with Yahoo before over the collection and distribution of emails and
names, etc in the past. There are still a few things that yahoo does not
own! (smile & laugh) but I will not voluntarily leave my email name & address
wide open for all to buy & sell onto some stupid spam mailing list of a
million names.

I know it sounds silly - but they have promised non-distribution in the past
only to break the rules 3-4 months later on every occasion (why I cannot use
my webpage email? because there are over 100 spam messages daily but they
only came after yahoo released the emails.)

I'd say lets all move to the 'webring.org" but they are already owned by
(guess who?) thats right - Yahoo.

you can find out more about this upcoming merger/takover at:

http://www.egroups.com/local/news.html

but you should read some of the news, ie international member services will
be changing somewhat as most of the laws do not cover the world.

I know this sounds silly - or like overreaction and paranoia - but I saw a
lot of blood sweat & tears over 2 other major yahoo purchases, one of which
resulted in an entire staff of people from around the world of which I was a
former member get chucked out the window and then of course the little policy
problem.

As a result. I have decided to remove my name from all the egroups I inhabit
and change the email so I do not receive any spam messages in future.

Should anyone wish to reach or respond to me my email here will not change
"kitkatklub@mailcity.com" and I will still try to make it out to as many
GABB's as possible and check out the site once a week to keep up with you
guys,

G'bye everybody!

Yours,

Liz P

BBcon IS next weekend!
This is a short honest teaser.
Times of the event marking the 16th anniversary of the premiere of The
Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai are August 11th (Friday), 12th (Saturday)
and 13th (Sunday). We will start around Noon PST/ 3 PM EST on Friday and
Saturday to at least 8 PM PST/11 PM EST and Sunday Noon PST/ 3 EST to 6
PM PST/ 9 EST.
For the most part this will be casual topical discussions among fans
gently guided by myself (and others). We'll discuss such topics as
Fanzines past and online, Web site construction, how to pick a BBI name,
Auctions & Banzai Memorabilia, Images - from JPGs to animated GIFs
discussion and tips, Round Robin Banzai Storytelling - in alphabetical
order everyone takes a turn adding one sentence to the story line, Old
Guard BBIs talk about the first 10 years of Banzai Fandom, Crossover
universes - Banzai with ?, Fanfic writing/characterization and other
topics as they come up.
We also are planning a general topic chat channel as well as a Lectroid
Nest where you can take on a 'John' name and spell phonetically on
topics like, Public service announcements at Yoyodyne, Lectroid Book,
film & tv show titles, Lectroid's reasons to: Live, collect whatever, be
employed at Yoyodyne, bathe, stay single, ask for a raise, hitting
machines and inanimate objects, doing the shock tower, dating/escort
service, the perfect date... you get the idea.

So, whether you are one of the 70 already registered for the event
(registration is NOT required BTW) or just feel like dropping in to see
what going on, please use the link and instructions below to come to
BBcon!

If you think you might drop in you might consider catching us at one of
the next two GABBs (Gathering All Blue Blazes aka chats) this Sunday and
Wednesday evenings. Same website, same chat channels.

It's all in fun, believe it!
BBI Dragon

Team Banzai Chat server AND BBcon:
http://www.team-banzai.net/Chat/chat.shtml
Or, point your IRC at: irc.team-banzai.net and then: /join #Buckaroo
Gabbs are scheduled twice weekly
Weds. & Suns. 6 PM PDT/9 PM EDT.
BBcon is Aug. 11 - 13th.

Here is a repeat of what BBI Rally said about all this:

The preferred method is via and IRC (internet relay chat) client such as

mIRC available here: http://www.ircle.com
or Ircle for the Mac available here: http://www.mirc.com

Due to time constraints I will not list any others, but for the
experimental, you can visit www.tucows.com for a full list of irc
clients. Both of these clients offer full instructions on how to
download and install, so I will defer to them. Both are small downloads
that take about 5 minutes under 56K modem and install without
interfering with your operating system.

Once installed they will ask for certain information that you can fill
in as you see fit.

The information you will need to connect to the TB (Team Banzai) Server
is as follows:
From the server window, select Add:
Description: Team Banzai
IRC Server: irc.team-banzai.net
Port: 6667, 6668, 6669, 7000 (Choose one)

Click Add
Click Connect to IRC Server (with the TB Server selected)

Once you have connected with the server, certain IRC service robots
(automated programs) will kick in.
The first will be nickserv, inviting you to register your nickname.
For the time being I choose not to explain this, the more adventurous
can work with the bot on their own.

Hope to see you there!

Seat belts!

If BBI Abacus and I had not been wearing them last night, I would not be
here to write this week's Dragon Tales, that I am sure of.
Last evening after having dinner with an old friend and BBI who was in
town, we hit a wet slippery spot on an other wise dry highway and our
truck fishtailed out of control. We hit the concrete divider between us
and the on coming traffic at about 50 mph, went up onto it high centered
and slit some 40 feet to a stop. The first thing that came out of my
mouth was, "Hold on!" and then, "say in the truck" because I was really
concerned about being hit by on coming traffic. That didn't happen.
Several citizens jumped from their cars and came to our immediate help,
the first asking if we were okay. Another man was already on his cell
phone with 911 so I helped Abacus out of the passenger's door. Within
moments Abacus was handing out flares and the next time we looked around
there were two police cars, a fire truck, paramedics and a tow truck
there! Somehow we'd crashed at just the right time and location that
they were all with in a few minutes of us. No other cars were involved.
We were checked over by the paramedics, the tow truck pulled our truck
off the concrete barrier and a friendly police officer gave us a ride
home. First ride in the back of a police car BTW. Abacus has a sore neck
and chest from the impact and seat belt as well as friction burns from
the driver's air bag. I didn't have an air bag so I'm REALLY sore in the
neck, back and especially the chest from the seat belt. But we did walk
away. The truck looks totaled. We are fully insured and still have our
other car, the Jet Car. Rokit was not with us.
Please, wear your seat belts. They saved Abacus and I from being tossed
into oncoming traffic and serious injury or worse.
Next, car shopping.

Rokit Report. He was in his 'den' at home. These last two weeks have
brought bad news with Rokit. He's bitten Abacus twice and was too
aggressive for agility class. We've talked to our trainers, rented a
video and read a book on dominate aggressiveness and have changes 90% of
our interaction with him. This has made a big difference in his
behavior. After consulting one of the Jack Russell egroups I'm on,
several owners suggested another 'school of thought' and I picked up and
started reading this book yesterday.
The author has a difference view on this kind of 'negative' behavior and
we plan to incorporate it's teaching into what works best for us and
Rokit. We've enrolled in another session of basic obedience with Rokit
starting in a week and a half.

Other items for this week, you must have read above about BBcon, if not,
scroll up and please do so. I'd love to see you all having a fun time
next weekend at the event. Wither you just come to watch and listen or
participate in the discussions, please do drop by.

I'm on vacation all next week to work on BBcon and Team-Banzai.net so
take a look later in the week for the new features and additions to old
ones. Team-Banzai.net will have a rough schedule of topics for BBcon
later in the week as well.

Well, it's been an interesting last few weeks and with BBcon next
weekend it promises to continue.

A random Novel quote:
"Where's Buckaroo?" said Rawhide.
"Upstairs. Did you see the girl?"
Rawhide nodded. "It wasn't difficult. She's in the hoosegow."
We waited for more. "Well?"
"Well, what?"
"What does she look like?" Rawhide paused. He could be exasperating at
times! "Well-"
"Out with it, great fellow!" I blurted, unable to contain my curiosity.
"She looks like Peggy."

Disclaimer/Author Notes:

This story takes place in Spring 1987 (between the events of the movie
and Rafterman's proposed script for the sequel, from which it takes a few
plot cues). It's written from Reno Nevada's point of view much after the
fact, which seemed the best way to avoid getting flamed by folks who own
the book, and lets me pick up a few details from there more easily as
well.

Characters and concepts related to Buckaroo Banzai belong to other
people. See disclaimer on Chapter One for full info. In any event, the
author has no intent to make any money hereby and is just having fun.
Don't complain if details here don't coincide with the TV pilot/series;
this was started before the pilot script.

Plot elements and other characters are copyright 1998-??? and
1990-infinity, respectively, and are the property of Replay, except

--------------------------------------------------

Previously--

After an explosion wreaks havoc on their hotel rooms, Team Banzai has
relocated rather hastily to a former school at the edge of the metro
area. Their only wounded from the incident is Replay, who regains
consciousness 3 days after her second exposure to talava. Only she and
Buckaroo are aware at first that she remembers none of them except
Rawhide, whom she'd once drawn and only vaguely recalls.

Enter the plot complications: Wayback, a telepath who'd been testing
Replay's own psionic abilities to determine what effect, if any, her
prior exposure has had; a storm which borders on being epic in proportion
but which doesn't want to spawn the expected tornados; Hanoi Xan's spies
inside Team Banzai; Lindbergh, an intern and the Institute's senior
pilot, whom Wayback can't easily read; a suspicious power failure and the
definitely hostile jamming of Team Banzai communications; a police
Captain who considers Team Banzai vigilantes and the Blue Blaze
Irregulars wannabe vigilantes, and who has unwittingly assigned 2 BBIs to
the case; Deng Fat, one of Xan's lieutenants with a particular interest
in Replay, and the World Crime League team working for him who try to
kidnap Reno and Wayback; a lightning bolt; a federal witness turned FBI
agent; two bridges, one closed, the other with a host of problems
including World Watch One at rest upon it; the FBI agent's Adder partner;
a World Crime League member's unexpected traffic ticket; and a surprising
request for federal assistance. Further, Replay's cover is at least
partially blown, revealing her true identity -- gypsy resident Jet
Lightfoot -- to Lindbergh.

Chapter 15 continues with Professor Hikita's news...

--------------------------------------------
Lock and Key
Chapter Fifteen, pt.2

Concerned though he was about what he had to say, Hikita looked
profoundly relieved to see any of us, Buckaroo in particular. This alone
was enough to indicate that he knew we'd been out of touch. The
information he had to impart left little to the imagination beyond the
issue of loyalties; without a living witness to testify in that regard,
none of us could do more than guess how willing a part of Xan's schemes
the DJ had been.

Still, it was going to be interesting to learn what more the coroner's
office might have to say about the autopsy. Finding the control implants
intact was a very mixed blessing; clearly something had gone wrong with
this one, the first one we'd discovered whole since the events
surrounding Peggy's death. On the other hand, the fact that it was there
to be found in any condition at all was decidedly bad news, particularly
with Dingo in the equation. With the time constraints we were under,
about all the coroner's deputy could do for us immediately would be to
fax his pictures directly to World Watch One, so Buckaroo would have them
for comparison.

Jet approved of that idea at once if the expression on her face was any
indicator. The sooner the possibility of a bomb could be discounted or
proven, the sooner things would be dealt with properly. She knew of at
least three separate ways to detonate explosives using x rays as part of
the triggering mechanism; photos of the DJ's implant still in place
should allow for visual identification and should make it simpler to
decide how to successfully disable or perhaps even remove a transmitter.
Buckaroo ought to be able to handle that himself, or would have plenty of
help at hand if he needed it without her getting involved.

Full precautions were nonetheless called for until any foreign object
could be exposed sufficiently for inspection but, if explosives were
involved, it wasn't the sort of thing many bomb squads had personnel
trained to deal with. She would have wagered several thousand dollars
that the ex-military surgeons she could personally name who'd disarmed
patients would exceed the number of demolition men with like experience,
even if one polled all the bomb squads in the country; aware as she was
of the gaping holes in her recollection, she was still able to come up
with a dozen people last known to reside in Missouri alone.

It was not something she claimed to be anywhere close to expert about
either, but unless Buckaroo or Rawhide told her otherwise, she was
prepared to believe that she had more experience dealing with
booby-trapped personnel than anyone else at hand; necessity is at times a
great teacher. The trick, she thought, would be getting the needful
workspace evacuated without causing a panic in the process; this time,
she was going to need a much larger area cleared to prevent bystanders
from being injured if she messed up.

***

"Agent Westin, a word with you please." Special Agent in Charge George
Raines scarcely ducked his head into the conference room long enough to
make the request, if one could call it that.

"Go ahead," Murphy told her friend. "Wouldn't want to keep the boss
waiting. I'm not likely to get into trouble."

Allie nodded and went out into the hall. "You haven't heard from Travis,
have you?" she asked her superior.

"Your 'protected witness' there, she's a Blue Blaze Irregular, right?"

"She ID'd herself to the St. Charles PD that way when she called them
earlier." She did not say that it wasn't the first she knew of Murphy's
involvement with Team Banzai; even if that hadn't been a part of her
former life, she didn't particularly see that Raines needed to know it.

"I just heard from the Governor," said Raines. "He'd like us to look into
things. Your 'witness' might be just the person we need for liason with
Team Banzai; I have contacts at Quantico who tell me they may not
appreciate having us around."

"How do you want to handle it? I wouldn't ask Travis to loan her to us
for the duration."

"Thought I'd go over his head, ask the Chief. You have enough on him to
get him out of the picture?"

"Not that'll hold up in court. Enough for IAD to make his life miserable
for a couple weeks with, though. I can have it on your desk in ten
minutes as is, or maybe an hour if I can get anything more from Murphy."

"Murphy?"

"Get used to hearing it, boss; right now, she won't let me put her legal
name on record until we give her some guarantees Travis won't come down
on her like stink on a skunk. Murphy's her Blue Blaze identity."

"I guess it's better than 'Informant number...' -- what are we up to this
year, anyway?" Raines almost certainly knew, if he wanted to bother
retrieving it from memory; he was good with that sort of thing. "I'll
settle for what you've got now, but keep me updated as you find out more.
You and Underwood take Murphy; go out to De Paul. Someone in the ER ought
to know where you can find Dr. Banzai; see what he'll tell you -- or
Murphy."

***

Those of you familiar with televised police dramas undoubtedly know more
about their depiction of standard procedure that this poor scribe can
expand upon. It is not at all uncommon for such shows to feature police
officers who are able to leave multiple witnesses to an incident in a
single room safely merely by giving them instructions not to discuss
things among themselves before they can speak to an officer individually.
While this might be the desired standard in theory, it's seldom so simple
or clear-cut in the real world, where the police must deal with staffing
and/or other logistics problems, and where people told not to talk are in
fact the most likely to do just that.

While I have no doubt that at least some of our detractors will continue
their claims that we received special treatment until at least the end of
this millennium, the fact remains that practical concerns had more
bearing on how the St. Louis County and Maryland Heights police dealt
with Wayback and myself. Apart from any security issues that might have
had a bearing on matters, there was little real reason to insist we be
interviewed individually. Had we been of a mind to concoct some
coordinated story to tell, we'd clearly had plenty of time to do so;
since we weren't suspects at this point, they couldn't threaten either of
us with immediate incarceration or the likelihood of serious jail time in
order to convince us that dropping such a fiction would be in our best
interests. Juggling their available manpower in order to handle taking
separate statements was clearly too much effort for too little chance of
it making any difference at all.

Even so, there are the occasional matters which work the same in real
life as on television. When Wayback began to describe how he'd kept our
rental car on the road, the officers were every bit as disbelieving as
their fictitious counterparts would have been. One of them even rejected
his offer to take a sobriety test, insisting that it made no difference;
drunk or sober, Wayback was out of his mind if he believed what he was
saying. Another was only a trifle more open-minded, wondering instead if
our parapsychologist was human or one of those 'creatures from outer
space' he was firmly convinced the Institute attracts. Fortunately for
Wayback's patience, and perhaps my own sanity, they were all distracted
from the issue by new arrivals in the ER.
