Greetings,

Still trying to get the List moved over to eGroups.
Pardon the dust (and the duplicate copies - this will
be going out through AOL and eGroups).
It's not going as well as I thought. 511 on the list.
90 have switched over by replying to the invite.
Probably the 4th holiday has something to do with it?
Since no one has contacted me saying they specifically
don't want to be on an eGroups version of this, I'll
be directly subscribing folks during the coming week.
You'll get another message from eGroups, and if you
reply to it, you'll be UNsubscribed.

Later...

Folks attending Comic-Con International: San Diego will be happy to know
that the con will screen TABB at 3:35 p.m. on Thursday, July 20. For
those who were once talking about a con get together, the screening
would make an easy gathering point.

I guess if we all liked the same thing we'd all be pretty boring, so whilst
there may be a couple of BBI's that At The Auctions may not be their cup of
tea, I say keep pouring it on Dragon and Crazy Horse (as entertaining as
Siskel and Ebert of the Ebay circuit!) until the day comes when the BB
auction action dies or the scoundrel profiteers die off (whichever comes
last!)

I was curious to know if anybody is aware of any fannish homages to TABB on
video. Surely it's not just the Star Wars and Dr Who fans who have gotten
their own video cameras and scripts together in the name of fun??

I got the anniversary T Shirt and belt buckle from Starland over the internet
(it's a great service this on-line shopping; pity the Aussie to American
dollar convervsion for us is so bad (good for George Lucas and the SW2 budget
of course!). Still, the T Shirt was a 'gotta have' since a) I didn't have
that one, and b) there is not one of my original T Shirts that isn't a tight
fit anymore. The Starland service was as good as you can expect with delivery
promptness, and the T-Shirt, well, I can be a fan that can proudly display my
allegiances again (the satin jacket is too much for warmer weather!). Alas,
the belt buckle was not as I thought I'd be. It's smaller, and can't say I
see the value in it. I'm used to larger buckles, so I have to go hunting for
a narrower belt band to use on it. Well, at least I've got one and my fiancee
doesn't know the extent of abuse on my credit card!

I remembered the movie I saw the other week that I saw on video (aplogies if
you knew this already) that had Since I Don't Have You in it. Check out Blast
From The Past for that, it's a pretty fine movie all round. There must be a
pretty reasonable list now of movies using this song now, and every time
(like an exact model of your own car) you spot them consciously.

Can I say that one of my wishes (and one can wish) is to see Billy Vera on
stage live. Gotta get overseas first though! If Billy was touring, or
planning to, we'd here it here, right? Otherwise, the world needs a longform
video of The Beaters to watch at home and pump up the volume with the
visuals! I can cope with NTSC, no probs!

It would be interesting to pick a TABB actor and get a spot poll on the most
enjoyed non TABB role they've been in. Here are my choices:

Peter Weller Robocop 1 (awesome acting in a Tinman costume) beating out
Screamers (very underated)

Clancy Brown The Bride (half the movie was brilliant, half was crap, guess
which had pure genius), then the one where he's
manager to a pop band that had Leif Garrett in it
(help me out with the name here)

Jeff Goldblum Into the Night for the comic side that make me laugh,
closely followed by Faerie Tale Theatre-Three Little Pigs (as
the wolf) which has a top cast playing for
all it''s worth!

Ellen Barkin Like Jeff, a hard choice but I'd have to say This Boy's
Life (a heart puller) and the opposite Switch which
was an old idea Blake Edwards made work gain.

I'll save the rest for some other time, but in the
best if you liked TABB catagory, see this film, I
would recognise it's earlier inspiration
Doc Savage. If you haven't seen it, do, you will LOVE
IT!! Well til next time, hidee ho!

BBI Downtown

**** Over at the new home of this List, eGroups, you
can actually set up a poll for other list members to vote
on. It's okay. If you want my opinion. Oh, and as far
as fave non-TABB Peter Weller flick...'Of Unknown Origin'
wins hands down. - ArcLight ****

I was rather surprised to find out that a copy of Banzine! was out on e-Bay.
As editor, publisher and contributor, thanks for the kind words--much
appreciated. :)

Technically the zine (ran 2 issues) is out of print. I can however be
sweetalked occasionally into making a copy for interested parties. Email me
for details. If nothing else, it'll probably be much cheaper than going the
e-bay route.

Heh heh heh... funny you should mention that. I wrote for "Banzine!", and
yes, it is a nice one. I think you can still back order it from Jeff Morris.
I'm not sure if he still lives at the address I have for him, but you can
contact him at MorrisJeff@aol.com. I still have my trib copy up in the attic,
but I'd never sell that.

For those who are interested in such things, the zine has BB, Doctor Who and
Blake's 7 stories in it. My favorite story had to be "State of Siege". Very
well written and Karen River did the artwork for it.

Hello. Two quick notes...

Scanning and posting the novel is considered a violation of copyright,
fraud and theft, even if you don't charge anyone to look at it. Issues
similar to that idea is what lead to the Kinko's uproar in the mid-80s.
Writers get EXTREMELY annoyed when people distribute more than "fair
use" excerpts from their work, even if the book is out of print. When
you steal something and pass it out for free (which is what scanning the
novel comes down to) you are cutting into potential future earnings the
writer and the publisher could make off that work. Unless you want to
hear from lawyers, don't do it.

I too would really like to see the whole auction obsession seriously
reduced. Perhaps auction updates can be placed on a BB website, with a
link to it in the mailing so people actually interested can go check it
out?

Does anyone know where any of the movie items are at presently?

**** Apache?? You want to field that one? - ArcLight ****

If the overthruster came first before back to the future, then how do we know
that BB wasn't influenced by McFly or the Doc in one of the unknown time
jaunts...I mean think about it....BB maintains in the 8th dimension, yet
Mc/Doc have gone where BB has never been before, or has he and he isn't
telling.........is this a new movie or what? lol.......

I think BB's image and character is the one we wish we were when we were six
and again at sixty..........

I am definitely for the idea. Having searched for the book both in
paperback and electronic for 10 years I would most certainly want an
e-copy. Would I buy it if it were back in print? Of course! I used to have
a copy. But I will never pay those outrageous $50+ prices people ask for
the book. They are taking advantage of us! I say, get an e-copy, buy it
only if under $10 (and their are honest booksellers who do sell them at the
normal used book prices: my brother paid $2.50 4 months ago) or have faith.
The series will come, the book will be reprinted and some people will then
feel silly having paid so much for the book.

At The Auctions
with BBIs Dragon & Crazy Horse

It's been a fairly slow week for Banzai memorabilia.

Follow-up: The resin Lectroid thermopod casting sold for just over $220
to BBI Apache a fan from the old days of Banzai fandom. She says she is
looking forward to adding this unique item to her collection and hanging
it from the ceiling with fishing line. Congratulations!

The VHS of The Film at auction in the last week has averaged about $25
with the swing going from $16 to as high as $50. It's back up there
again.

Crazy Horse contacted the winner of an auction for some BB patches and
this is what they said:
To: BBI-CrazyHorse@webtv.net Subject: Re: Banzai Patches
After I got the items, I saw that they were brand new and a rip-off. But

you take that chance on Ebay these days. I checked out the starland.com
site and I appreciate you pointing me to it. I'll browse through the
site and see what they have. Thanks for the info.

The ULTIMATE BUCKAROO BANZAI COLLECTION

Crazy Horse: If I did not already own the movie and novel, I would
definitely put up a bid for this item!! It has a lot of stuff for the
Banzai collector. The seller sounds like he has actually seen the movie,
too!
The only downside to this item is the seller's starting price. $60 is a
bit to ask as a minimum, although this item will surely sell for higher.
All in all, this is a great item to bid on. I give i a true blue thumbs
up!!!

Dragon: YES! A very nice collections and great presentation of an
auction. This collection includes; The MOVIE, The BOOK Buckaroo Banzai
by Earl Mac Rauch, The LOGOS Four patches that are seen from the movie,
THE HEADBAND The "Holy Grail" of Banzai-dom. Let's see what I can come
up with as a final bid guess... movie= $20+, Book= $30+, 4 patches= $20,
headband= $20. A grand total of $110+, BUT my guess will be that it
doesn't sell. Why? because I think that most fans have one or two of
these items already and they will not bid on a package deal to fill in
the rest. For the sake of the seller I hope I'm wrong.

I contacted the seller and found out that he had a similar 'collection'
several months ago but had to pull the auction because ebay said he had
a 'bootleg' item in the collections, an audio tape of the sound track.
This is an interesting point... because this could mean that maybe Crazy
Horse and I could contact ebay when ever someone is selling bootlegs of
the sound track (seeing as there isn't an 'official' release) and the
letter box/extended version of the vhs tape and get these auctions
pulled. Interesting.

Follow-up: This auction had one bidder and they got the collections for
the minimum bid of $60. I'm glad I was wrong with my guess on whither or
not this collection would sell but I'll bet the seller is a bit
disappointed in that it didn't get but one bid.

Well this is it for another week, catch you all next time with At The
Auctions.

Hello everyone!

I am asking for help!

BBcon is not going well to be completely honest with you. It looks like
most of the actual programming is going to be fan generated and that is
where I need the help. Do you have an idea or two that is remotely
Banzai related that you'd like to suggest as a topic for discussion or
even an online activity or game that you'd like to do? Please contact me
privately because I'd love to hear from you. I was thinking even
non-Banzai type things would be entertaining, as long as the fans would
enjoy them. The more Banzai the better but I'm not going to be closed
minded about any ideas.
We are planning to have a "Lectoid's Nest" (channel/room) for fans who
want to use 'John' names and talk about Lectroid things... spell
phonically, roast Twinkies, what ever. So, we need ideas for that too.

Other items to address...

'Novel Project', I know that there are a few rumors flying around...
but it has been postponed indefinantly due to the enormity of the
undertaking. I'm sorry for the disappointment this may cause.

Rokit Files
This marks the 8th week with our new companion and the 3rd obedience
lesson. He's doing very well, everyone says he's much improved. We have
a new 'toy' for him. It's called the Springer - the third had on your
bike. It's basically a metal arm that attaches under the seat of a bike
and holds the dog out so that they can run with you as you bike. It's a
lot of fun for us all and gives us all exercise, especially Rokit.

Team-Banzai.net has not been updated, yet. I'm still tweaking this and
that and just realized that I still have the St. Patrick's day
decorations up on the front of Club 88. So, I need to work on that too.
I'll let all know when I finally get the update online.

I think I'll call it good with that, dig around for my usual novel quote
and see you all at a Gabb or in the next issue of the WWO.

Always True Blue,
BBI Dragon

A random novel quote: Lord Whorfin calls up Yoyodyne and gets John
Bigboot on the phone:
The groggy voice of John Bigboot came on the line, almost whining, it
seemed to John Whorfin.
"What's the matter, John Bigboot?" he said tersely. "Did I take you
from something important?"
"No, I was just getting some snooze."
"What kind of language is that?" Whorfin screamed. "Snap to attention
when I talk to you! I'll have your head! Prepare for my return!"
