Greetings,

Next week is 'TABB' week on the S-F Channel.
June 4th at noon eastern (followed by letterboxed
showings of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' at 6:29pm
and 'Blade Runner' at 9:00pm) so mark your calendars.
As always, a note thanking them wouldn't be a bad
idea I think. Don't bless them out for cutting
it or screwing up the end credits, though. Maybe
mention how nice an uncut, letterboxed showing
would be, but politely, of course.
Email addy is: program@www.scifi.com

Won't be around next weekend, so you may get this
Thursday, but probably not until Monday night.

Anyway, gotta get this going so I can try and get
it out between storm clouds.

Later...

Competition or fraternal brother?
Besides BB showing in June- Blade Runner is also showing around June 4.
I consider BR a classic as much as BB. There is also a part two paperback
that was published a year or so ago that goes past the end of BR.

to get through the first half of 2, and reading all the
lousy reviews for them on the newsgroup, I decided I'd
had enough. Your mileage may vary, of course. - ArcLight ****

you guys slay me, i get my most valued email just to hear about you (DEVOTED)
BB fans trash talk the con artists that are playing on our pocketbooks. I was
taken a few years ago by they guy who was selling the BB soundtrack "with
only 1000 copies of this gold disk" only to find out the very obvious. Being
the "sucker" I was back then (you could have sold me anything and I would
have bought it) I discovered when i listened to it for the first time that I
had been duped. Oh well, I warned all my friends of this guy at conventions
and in the future we harrassed him about selling crap, not only crap but the
crappiest of crap! Anyway keep up the good work and thanks again for a good
laugh everyonce and a while.

Hi there,

Just like the European person who will make copies of his tape, I have the
BB laserdisc and, for the cost of a blank plus postage (or provide a blank
plus postage) I can make you a nice copy. I also have the editor's cut
(rough cut), and the same offer applies to that. I have seen a few copies of
the rough cut, and none have looked better than my copy. (Some have been the
same quality)

If anyone wants to have these made for them, please send me a privaste
e-mail.

Take care,

Hello,

My roommate says to me...oh so gently..."Honey you know that Buckaroo isn't
real don't you?" "Hah," I say to her, "you said the same thing about
Sherlock Holmes so what kind of credibility do you have?"

I would be interested in what some other irregular's favorite Banzai quotes
or philosophies are. (Did that make sense?...You know what I
mean...dissertation dementia is setting in!) Not necessarily from the film,
although that's fine too, but from the whole Banzai diegesis.

I've been a Buckaroo fan for many years and have seen the movie countless
times. Of late, I have been reading about archetype characters in mythology
and literature. In many instances, characters like Buckaroo seem to be
modeled after these archetypes or conjure up images of such archetypes. I am
interested to read what other fans think of Buckaroo as a character or an
archetype. What is so appealing about his character to some of us, yet didn't
seem to translate into larger success for the film or the character? (Some
examples of archetypes that I've come across include: acrobats, priests,
magicians/tricksters, wise old crones, scientists, heroes, Byronic heroes,
knights, etc.)

For me, I think that the multiple archetypes that he represents is most
appealing. At once a scientist, a comic book hero, a martial artist,
scientist, rocker, etc., is most interesting. In addition, he definitely
seems removed and apart from the everyday and mundane world. While not
comedic himself, I still find the character very entertaining, interesting
and humorous.

What other characters from literature or mythology does he resemble? Why is
he funny and entertaining?

Subj: Buckaroo Banzai movie poster + BB on DVD!
Date:	5/23/00 5:50:29 PM Eastern Daylight Time
From:	veracitor@earthlink.net (veracitor)

I really don't know if the BB poster I bought about a month ago was an
original (the condition of it was like it had never seen the light of day)
probably a bootleg reissue. All I know is I paid $25, not $150 as mentioned
on this sight.

When I first began my quest for a BB poster a so-called "collectibles broker"
told me how hard and rare the posters are and that I was looking at spending
$500! Not having that kind of scratch, I struck out on my own and at last
found one that suited my needs just fine.

With a bit of courage and luck, I now have Jeff Goldblum's and Peter Weller's
autographs on my BB poster and I will treasure this item for the rest of my
days. I still have yet to get it framed.

I also spoke to an employee at a DVD store that told me an MGM rep. was in
his store and when questioned said there are no plans to release Buckaroo on
DVD (something about a licensing/ownership problems and the movie not being
economically viable). Believe me a movie studio would iron those gliches
right out if they thought releasing the film on DVD would make money.

Since DVD players are not in every home, movie studios with B/Cult movies
are taking full advantage of the lack of competition in DVD sales from major
studios and releasing their films on DVD. You can go into a DVD store and
buy all kinds of obscure movies (e.g. The Hidden, Spider Baby) and not be
able to find alot of former "Blockbusters". People are buying the cult stuff
right now for lack of choice and the need to compliment their new DVD players
with a sizable library. The time is ripe for BB to be made available.

So, given all the above, I propose we start circulating a petition via email
to release Buckaroo on DVD and forward it on to those suits who don't believe
for some reason that they'd make money off sales. They need to hear from
people like us that there is indeed a demand for this movie in it's clearest,
most stereophonic form with lots of special features and options.

I realize there are purists out there who dread the thought of BB on DVD, but
think of how everyone involved in the movie would benefit from a surge in
sales. And most importantly, how fun as a fan it would be to be able to
click on scenes that never made it in the film, actor bios, watch the
original trailer and all the other fun options available on DVD format.

Is this idea heresy or is anyone into it?

At The Auctions
With BBIs Dragon & Crazy Horse

This has been an active week at ebay. There are a thermopod full of VHS
tapes for auction, of just over 50 items listed, 18 are the tape.
Hopefully this will bring down the winning bids, I'll keep track and let
you know of we've seen a dip below the recent average of $18. Several
'first editions' of the Great Novel It's Self have surfaces and a big
money getting, the laser disc of TABB is back. This item has been
peeking at over $200!!!

Please remember, we are on your side. We do not wish to promote anyone
bidding on any particular items nor to do business with web sites we
happen to mention. We present this column to be entertaining and
educational to the readers of the World Watch Online newsletter.

Now on to the auctions...

Patch Yoyodyne

"Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems LOGO PATCH Scarce patch.
Might not be relisted. Last of the Yoyodyne
Items we are aware of so may keep if not sold."

Crazy Horse: Now here is something that is just plain GREED! What is it
with these patches? It's getting out of hand, I tell you! And who in the
hell would be willing to spend at least $24 for it? The seller says this
item is "scarce." I guess this means he only bought 1 from Starland!!

Dragon: This sell is kidding, right?! Unfortunately I don't think they
are! As the description states, they just might have to keep this one
for themselves. This kind of thing gets my dragon flames up and hot. The
nerve of this seller. Frankly, I'm not going to hold back, we should
contact this seller (politely) and let them know what a ridiculous
auction this truly is.

How's the bidding on the 'nearmint' Team Banzai cardboard box going
Crazy Horse?!?

Crazy Horse: This one makes me a bit P.O.'d too!! I think I'll ask him
a few "innocent" questions about how really scarce
this patch is, and see what he says? What do you think?

BTW, I box did not sell, so I decided not to re-list it!!!!

Dragon: I think your 'innocent' questions are a better angle to go at
this seller then what I was thinking of doing. My approach, even after
taking a few hours to let it stew, was to basically challenge the seller
with some 'facts' about the patches and past auctions of the Yoyodyne
patch in particular. Go with your 'innocent' questions and let's see
what comes of it. One thing to take into consideration is IF some fan is
willing to pay that much for it and they don't bother to do a little
research first, that really deserve what the get, or are willing to pay.
I'm confident that it will not sell at that price.

Crazy Horse: $2 or $24? Here is a BIG price change!! (link removed)

Dragon: YES!!! Another Yoyodyne patch, looks the same, different seller
and the opening bid it only $2, not like the other one at $24. I wonder
who's going to be selling and how's going to be keeping their 'scarce'
Yoyodyne patch?

A quick check of completed auctions on Yoyodyne patches shows that the
average in the last 5 auctions was around $10.50 a patch. They are $4.95
at Starland when you buy direct.

-----

Long Sleeved Jersey

Dragon: Same seller is trying to auction off one of those long sleeved
jerseys,. Remember the same item that hasn't had a bidder at $24.99
(twice now) and this seller wants $35 to start!!! Obviously hasn't done
any research on past auctions on this item, like the Yoyodyne patch.
The description states: "In very good shape. May have been worn before -
Requires some ironing. This is a very scarce long sleeve shirt with
great graphics. Size is Medium (again with the skinny fans?!?)."
Okay, since this shirt isn't in production at Starland I'll not going to
squabble about it being 'very scarce' except that someone else was
selling one last week!

Crazy Horse: $35 is a bit high for an opening bid. Since it didn't sell
at a lower price, what makes this seller think it will sell at a higher
price? Was he drunk when he put it up for auction? It's the only reason
I can think of!

Dragon: A reason... greedy optimism.

-----

BB Lobby Cards (same seller as above items)

Dragon: Okay this is 'pick on one seller week' I guess!!!
A full set of 16 lobby cards from the film. I know I've seen these
offered before! Obviously they didn't sell.
The seller goes on and on about how "Fantastically" these are mounted
and how costly that was in '84 and is now. Frankly I found it annoying.
All this tells me is that 'Hollywood' pays way too much to have a
mounting job done!!! I've working with foamcore before, all you need is
a very sharp knife, a steady hand, a straight edge and some spray mount,
"so what, big deal'. $75 to start the bidding and the reserve is higher.
This seller is going to be keeping these in their collection just like
the Yoyodyne patch!

Crazy Horse: I didn't know that foam core was so expensive!! I guess
these were mounted back during the "foam core drought" of the mid 80's,
when you could only get it from a small company in Denmark. Or could it
be that this seller is full of B.S.?

-----

B-O-N-Z-A-I

People are still bidding on misspelled items and sellers are still
listing them incorrectly. Currently there are several patches, including
the Yoyodyne patch and it's still under $10, three tapes and a Starlog
magazine. Nothing has reached 'ridiculous bidding' status, yet .

Well that's all the items we wanted to tell you about this week. Some
ridiculous prices and optimistic sellers for sure.

Hello everyone!

How about we start off with the...

Rokit Report: This was week #1 with our new four legged companion.
Abacus and I have seen great improvements in his behavior. He had his
first visit to the Vets. I say 'Vets' because where we go we get the
knowledge and experience of two doctors at once. Rokit was taken in for
the cough he's had most of the last week and for his rabies shot. The
cough seems to not be 'kennel cough' but rather some sort of irritation.
We were sent home with various meds to treat this. The rest of the story
from here, so far, is that he's adjusted to our work schedule very well.
I've peeked in on him when coming home for
lunch and he's taken up to sleeping in sight of the back door where I
enter and exit. He still throws a bit of an excited fit for about 2
minutes when I come home. And tries to leave with me when I go back to
work. Rokit has improved greatly in the yard as well. Not nearly as much
pulling on the lease.

Last week ArcLight asked for opinions about moving this newsletter to
the egroup just the same as the 'BBlist' is done. We had a chance to
chat with ArcLight about this in some detail at one of this week's Gabbs
and it sounds like a great move to me. ArcLight, you have a thumbs up
from BBI Dragon.

The Gabbs are going well, as usual. Check information below this post
for the times and url.

BBcon has had no new developments. I'm researching a few program
participants contact information with little luck, but I'll keep
digging.

There was an interesting rumor brought to our attention on the BBlist
(aka egroup) by BBI KJB that says that there is some talk that FOX may
run the '84 movie as the pilot to launch the TV series. It's just talk
and the pilot script has not yet gotten the green light to go into
production at this point. Summer of '01 is likely the earliest we can
hope for at this point.

Time to go toss a ball for Rokit but first I'll grab my tattered copy of
The Novel and finish off this weeks post.

Always True Blue,
BBI Dragon

Random novel quote: The news commentator is asking the guys questions
just after the Jet Car test...
Commentator: Was Buckaroo acting any different this morning? I mean, in
terms of other mornings?
Perfect Tommy: I don't know. I was asleep. Rawhide, you saw him.
(The quiet gunsmith Rawhide, uneasy before the cameras, knows only how
to speak the truth.)
Rawhide: I don't think he went to bed. Buckaroo normally only sleeps an
hour or two a night anyway, ever since-
(Rawhide glances at us, notices our keen scrutiny of what he is about to
say, and thankfully neglects to mention the profound change in Buckaroo
since the death of his wife Peggy.)
