Greetings,

Lots of good stuff this time around. And nothing at
all about that Elian kid.

Difficulties with either my ISP (no, not AOL) and/or
FortuneCity means that as of right now, the next PDF
file of the original newsletter isn't up on the site.
Maybe later, definately sometime this week.

The May calendar is up, also. Saluting the Jetcar this
time around.

Later...

Got the following info from Liz Waldrip, thanks Liz,

What's Clancy Brown doing?

In the Nickyoons show, "Sponge Bob Square Pants", he is the voice of Mr.
Krabs, Sponge Bob's Boss.

In "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea", he is the voice of a
shark that gets turned into a guppy.

He just finished filming a pilot for TNT called "Breaking News". This
is about a 24 hour news station and what goes on behind the scenes.
More info on this is available at the TNT web site.

Just wanted to let you know about a couple of Charities that Clancy
supports. One is the Beth Brown Memorial Foundation, Inc. It is in
memory of his sister who died in 1964 of juvenile lukemia. The other
one is Kids With A Cause. He became associated with this one when his
co-star on "Earth 2", J. Madison Wright, developed a severe cardiac
condition that required a full heart transplant. (She's doing great
now.) The addresses, for anyone who's interested are:

In the last ish re: eBay:
The BB Limited Edition Score

Dragon: This is a very professional looking and presented piece. The
seller states: "Sound Track Library 019 - Mint Unsealed - Complete Score
to Buckaroo Banzai composed by Michael Boddecker with 11 tracks at 32
minutes. Also contains score to Saturn 3... Limited to only 500" In a
search of the web neither of us can find a copy of this for sale. Why?
Remember, there is no official CD of the soundtrack/score to Buckaroo
Banzai.

Crazy Horse: $66!?!?! What the hell is that? They can't even spell
"Banzai" right!!! This is the same soundtrack that another seller
offered to "burn" for me for $15. And who the hell would want to listen
to the SATURN 3 soundtrack anyway?

Dragon: You are right! The 'Banzai' on the actual cd is spelled with
an 'o', not an 'a' !?! Yes, it sold at auction with some rather active
bidding for $66. Currently there is another one of these from a
different seller and the minimum bid is $35.95, no bids yet, but there
will be.

BBI Red Di adds:

That's so wrong! I was a pretty silly person to have paid $80 for the gold
"limited edition" CD at a sci-fi con in San Jose 4 years ago, tho I didn't
know it was just a poor quality bootleg. And I certainly hope everyone here
on this site knows that if they want a free copy of the soundtrack, all they
need to do is send me a SASE and a tape and I'll copy it off the CD I have
(which is actually a better-quality burned copy that one of our fellow
BBI-ers burned for me after kindly buying the first gold CD off me, does
that make sense?). Enjoyed your reviews,

BBI Red Di

Hey, there, well, it would be brainless just to ask
you to put me on the list, but since you asked me for
my story of how and why I love BB then I guess you'll
just have to deal w/ the length, because it's gonna
take a little bit to tell :) I guess it all started
when I was 5... Well, actually it did. That was the
first time my parents watched Buckaroo and of course
my brother (he's known he wanted to be a computer guy
for the entire time I've known him :P ) was
enthralled! For years he touted the praises of this
movie, now, you might be wondering why I did'nt
automatically fall for the movie, well that's simple,
I was 5, I fell asleep and braindead during the movie
just like I did everything else, you must realize I
did'nt discriminate against Buckaroo, I slept through
everything then, in fact, I don't remember much about
life until after I turned 8. :) That being the case,
there are a lot of movies out there I have never seen
through, (ET is a good example, of course I don't
think I'm missing much on that one) and I started to
wonder what I had actually missed. I was a child of
the 80's, I was supposed to grow up loving Star Wars
and Indiana Jones, instead I did'nt see Star Wars
until 94, (sad is'nt it?). But this Buckaroo thing
sounded too much like a period 80's piece of work to
me and my wonderous bro could'nt get me to sit down
long enough to watch it. Until last Feburary (99) I
was sick with the flu, and was so sick I could'nt move
from the bed. He came in my room popped Buckaroo in
my TV, and left. He had me trapped where I had to
watch it, but amazingly, it was'nt as bad as I
thought, in fact, I really liked it. Anyways, I'm now
really happy because I found all of you. The only
thing that would make me happier is if I could be
Queen of the Netherlands :) LOL! Well, now that you
know my story :P if you could get the newsletter out
to me, it would be much appreciated, keep cool!

would take advantage of a sick sibling's condition

I had to laugh about that watch when I saw it come up for auction. In the
late 1980's (possibly early 90's) I was working in a jewelry store in
Chicago, we were giving away those watches as free gifts to poeple who signed
up for credit through our store! They are not in any way associated with the
movie; "Banzai" was simply the brand name that the manufacture gave that
particular line. I think they cost us about three or four dollars, and I
bought about six of them because I thought they were cool (after all they did
have our hero's name on them) and they each lasted approximately six months
to a year before they crapped out. (You know that the Banzai Institute would
design a better watch.) So there ya go. Another mystery explained.

At The Auctions with BBIs Dragon & Crazy Horse

Well...

Soundtrack CD CD-ROM

Crazy Horse: Now here's an item of interest. It says "never released."
Considering that we are talking about 1984, I'm not surprised!!! I don't
remember any cd-rom soundtracks being released in 1984, do you? You do
get a lot of stuff with this. I'd be interested to know about the
"websites" included. Can anyone say "BOOTLEG?"

Dragon: The description says it all really...
SPECIAL EDITION COMPILATION SOUNDTRACK
contains along with 26 musical audio tracks, several
multi-media functions such as 46 dialogue tracks,
5 hard to find video files (a deleted scene from the film
which contains a cameo from Jamie Lee Curtis,
cinema trailer, "making of" clips), scans of the postcard
set, presskit photos and extras, links to 20
websites, the movie script and more. This soundtrack never
got an official release, and never will.

'Special Edition' must be a new way of saying 'Bootleg', lol! The
description at least says it up front, 'never got an official release'.
At least this seller is being up front with it, I have to respect them
for that. I too, would be interested in the 20 websites. Right now there
are 11 on the BB Web Ring so I wonder who the others are. This is a
packed CD, I mean look at all the stuff. The seller is from Ireland,
interesting. I've heard of the 'Great Britain Edition' of a BB
soundtrack on CD, I wonder if there is any relationship here. Sounds
like an ideal collectible, too bad it's not 'Official', the fans would
come out of the woods to buy it and I'd be first in line. The potential
buyer must be willing to literally 'buy-in-to' the bootleg industry and
support people who will burn these kind of items out and sell them every
few weeks. The film's so-call 'Rough Cut/ Director's Score/ Letterbox
widescreen is the same situation. Buying Bootlegs is like saying, "Sure
I'm greedy and obsessive enough to buy anything with the word Banzai on
it!" Say, I've got a watch you should look at... ;)

Crazy Horse: I contacted the seller on this CD of TABB

Greetings!!!
Your CD-Rom looks very interesting. You have quite an item there. I was
curious about one thing, though. What exactly are the "links to 20
websites?" Are these like fan sites, or are they something official from
the film?
Please let me know.
Thank you.

 Message From: "seller"
Subject: Re: Buckaroo Banzai CD-Rom

Hi,

The 20 websites are all fan related. There's nothing really official
being produced about the film anymore, this release is actually a
bootleg -a good one, though- and it doesn't look like it will ever get a
proper release (it looks unlikely the film will ever get a DVD release
either).

I only looked at a few of the sites, I know at least one you can get a
link for from the Internet Movie Database.

All the best,
"seller"

Dragon: At least this seller is upfront and honest with the bootleg. No
deception to the buyer here. This item sold for $43.44 USA money (28
GBP).

-----

TABB Laserdisc

Crazy Horse: What did you think about the laser-disc? Damn, someone
really wanted it! Maybe they figure they can make their money back, plus
a profit, by bootlegging the movie.

Dragon: What can I say... $223.50 for the laserdisc. For that kind of
money you'd think it was an original prop from the film!!! That's the
highest I've seen one go for in a while!

-----

TABB Beta Tape

Crazy Horse: Now here's a REAL collector's item!!! TABB on BETA!! This
thing would be something to have, if you have a beta player. It might be
worth buying an old Beta player just to be able to play it!!

Dragon: Yes, some claim that beta was an all around better medium then
VHS. Can you even get old Beta machines anymore? I guess I should check
the auctions shouldn't I. :) (In fact there are many at auction at
eBay) This item is still an active auction and the current high bid is
$5.50 with two days for to do.

-----

TABB VHS Tapes

Dragon: I just did a check and got the calculator out. In the last week
and a half the average selling price for a BB VHS tape at eBay is $18.
That's down from a month ago when it was $22. That's good for the
buyers. We were wondering if the sheer number of tapes up for auction
would drop the highest bid down a few notches. It looks like it has.

-----

VHS Tapes - Rough Cut / Widescreen / Letterbox / Director's Cut... and
now...

Dragon: Look, yet another; 'This is vhs copy of the extremely rare rough
cut...' of TABB. It's the BUCKAROO BANZAI VHS Extended LBX Version!.
Brand new seller's username too. Hum... and I don't get this either,
it's currently at the opening bid of 'GBP 6.00' (approx. $9.48) what
ever that is, seller says they are from country: 'United States'.

Okay, how 'extremely rare is it REALLY when they are all making and
auctioning off a copy a week, each!?
Now what 's this 'LBX' stand for??? We could contact the seller, or, a,
er, we could make stuff up!
LBX stands for 'Look Bootleg eXtra-cash-in-my-pocket!'
GBP must stand for 'Good Bootleg People-pay-big-bucks-for-this!'
I'm obviously missing a few of the finer points about this auction.

Crazy Horse: I've never heard of LBX before. Maybe that's the brand
name of the vcr they use for making all these bootlegs? Exactly how many
of these "rare" copies are there? Every week, there's a few for sale.
I'd like to get in
touch with someone who actually bought one and see just how the video
quality is.
By the way, I contacted the guy with the LBX video tape. He says the
initials stand for "Letterbox." I never would have guessed.

Dragon: This item had a high bid of $25.

-----

BuckarooBanzai 4 PHOTOS Unique Badge & Pin

Crazy Horse: I guess this didn't sell the first time 'round!!

Dragon: Yes, I noticed this one, again, too. Interesting about the
photos. The seller states that they are "small photos' but doesn't go
into exact measurements. The package includes these 4 photos, a button
of BB and an engraved TEAM
BANZAI badge. I read the 'fine print' on this seller, partly because
they encourage you to, "please see the 'ME' page for full details of
terms and agreements...". This seller covers everything and the kitchen
sink at that 'ME' page. Can't criticize them for putting all that there
for the potential bidder to read first. Nothing out of line either. I
think the starting bid is
too high at $24.50. Personally, if I was looking at this auction as a
bidder, I'd think, button $1, badge $5, photo (if they were 8x10s)
$5-$10 each. That comes to the collection being worth around $30 (+ or -
$5) assuming the
photos are 8x10. Like I said, too high of a starting bid and they need
to clarify the size of the photos and adjust the starting bid, in my
opinion.

This auction ends today and there aren't any bids on it. Again.

-----

BB T-shirt

Dragon: What's this? A T-shirt with the video or novel cover in it? Is
that what I'm seeing? This is a new one on me! The description says:
'Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai shirt...XL, white with design shown on
front...Brand new, never before worn'.

Crazy Horse: Yeah, that T-shirt looks pretty bad. Looks like they just
printed out the pic onto transfer paper and put it on a shirt!!!!

Dragon: How many washings do you think one of those 'iron-on from your
printer transfers' is going to last ? You've done them.

Crazy Horse: You can get quite a few washings out of an iron-on T-shirt
if you do it right. However, if the transfer is done wrong, it will fall
apart after just a couple of washes.

Dragon: This one sold to the highest bidder for just under $23. I've
been on contact with the winner and they say just as soon as it arrives
they will let me know what they think of the item. Hopefully I'll have a
follow-up next week.

-----

Well that's it for another week At The Auctions. See you all next week
and be smart shoppers, please!

**** Something I just noticed at eBay today. A Yoyodyne patch
with a minimum bid of around $25!! The same patch you can get
new for what? $6 or so at Starland? I don't have (much) problem
with folks auctioning legit collectibles, like the laserdisc
(tho' you'd have to kill and cremate me before getting mine)
but so much of the t-shirts and patches and postcards and movie
posters and such are available from straight retail places on
the web that trying to get a price like that for a patch is
just this side of attempted robbery in my book. At least it looked
like no one fell for it. No bids. - ArcLight ****

"Not dead, just hiding. He tangled with a vigilante who had

"So what's he doing with the books?"

"He's been recieving regular shipments of artifacts from

Hello everyone!

BBI Abacus and I were in our local video rental shop and we came on a
film that we just had to see, 'Diplomatic Siege' staring Peter Weller
(Buckaroo Banzai) and Daryl Hannah. This was kind of a 'Die Hard' style
film with Weller playing the lead. I don't recall this one getting to
the theaters, it was a '99 copyright film. Maybe it went quickly to
video or directly to video, it's hard to keep up with these things. It
was fun to see Weller in a film again and doing action shoot 'em up
stuff. As for stretching any Banzai references, the third main character
in this film was named 'Buck Swain' (not Weller's character) who arrived
with his special forces (Strike Team?) in an armored bus. To top it off,
this character did say, "Saddle up!" when sending his forces in. This
film was campy but brutal at times. Then again, looking at TABB, what's
not brutal about a 'shock tower' and the assault on Yoyodyne? We'd
recommend this film for light entertainment, it's no Oscar nominee, but
it's fun to see Buckaroo (P. Weller) doing action again.

**** I caught part of this on cable a few weeks back. Looked like it
could be entertaining. - ArcLight ****

The preferred method is via and IRC (internet relay chat) client such as

or Ircle for the Mac available here: http://www.mirc.com

Due to time constraints I will not list any others, but for the
experimental, you can visit www.tucows.com for a full list of irc
clients.

Both of these clients offer full instructions on how to download and
install, so I will defer to them. Both are small downloads that take
about 5 minutes under 56K modem and install without interfering with
your operating
system.

Once installed they will ask for certain information that you can fill

The information you will need to connect to the TB (Team Banzai) Server
is as follows:

From the server window, select Add:

Description: Team Banzai
IRC Server: irc.team-banzai.net

Click Add
Click Connect to IRC Server (with the TB Server selected)

Once you have connected with the server, certain IRC service robots
(automated programs) will kick in.
The first will be nickserv, inviting you to register your nickname.
For the time being I choose not to explain this, the more adventurous
can work with the bot on their own.
