Waiting for Buckaroo...

Greetings,

Hope everyone who wanted to had a happy Thanksgiving and safe
weekend.
For those new to the list, and those who missed it last time,
I'm going to put up a link page on the site for member's personal
web pages, BB related or not. I've only had 3 ask to be put on so
far. Also, I'm thinking of adding a 'wanted' section, so folks can
put in a request for The Novel (good luck! <g>) or the Editor's Print,
posters, whatever. And if you've got any BB stuff you want rid of
for some odd reason, I can put that up too. Personally, I'd still love
to get ahold of one of those jetcar toys and the mugs <hint, hint>.
I'm also a big "Highlander" fan, and recently we had a "6 Degrees
to Highlander" thread on the newsgroup. About half of the connections
I made went through "TABB" and Clancy Brown. Just doing my
duty to spread Banzai-awareness. <g>
And if anyone happens to be at the Creation Con in Sacramento, Ca.
on the 25th or so, and sees someone in a Banzai shirt, it's probably
me. Say "Hi."
Oh, and I hear that the Overthruster has reared it's head again.
Apparently on a recent episode of "Babylon 5" there was a scene in
which G'Kar has a piece of wreckage, possibly from a starfury spacecraft.
If you look VERY closely at the wreckage, you'll see that an oscillation
overthruster has been built into the prop. The scene is near the very
beginning of the episode. I think the episode's title is "Whatever Happened
to Mr. Garibaldi?" Any B5 fans out there who can pin this down?
Maybe I should put up a Banzai reference page, too? With lists of the
Overthruster appearances and movies with BB in-jokes? Whaddaya think?
Well, with the holiday season coming up, I won't be too surprised if
the traffic on the list slows down considerably, so just in case this is the
last one for '96, be safe and have a happy New Year.

Hang loose,
Chris
(and if you get any cool BB presents, make sure you tell us)

Gee, I don't remember this... can someone point me to a copy of
the director's cut? What I do remember is that in the script, or one
version of it, Widmark is ready to call an American first strike on Russia
and Buckaroo talks him out of it.

Well, uh... I will never, ever assume Rawhide is dead, but even if
he had been, Clancy Brown and Rick Richter were talking about him coming
back in the sequel as Rawhide's evil twin. Really. Clancy Brown was
planning to call the character "Buggsy." -- he, like the other actors,
signed a three-movie deal.

Dave said:

Nope. *Everyone* thought there'd be a sequel, but Banzai got
caught up in studio politics and the fall of David Begelman. Even when
there was interest in a sequel, a few years later when TABB had become a
cult hit, Begelman supposedly refused to release or sell his 51% interest
in the rights, thereby preventing all sequels. Begelman went bankrupt and
subsequently committed suicide a year or two ago, and what has become of
the rights deponent knoweth not further. Anyone else?

Cheers,

Mr. Brown will be co-starring in Disney's new film "Flubber".
"Flubber is an updating of "The Absent-Minded Professor", and stars
Robin Williams, Marcia Gay Harden, and effects by ILM. It's
written/produced by John Hughes, and directed by Les ("Encino Man")
Mayfield. Another genre favorite in the film is Ted Levine,
everyone's favorite dressmaker from "Silence of the Lambs".

Its fun to see that people are still talking about one of my favorite
movies, on the web.

I got into a Banzai club here in Portland Oregon a few years ago called the
Cascade Rangers. The de-facto leaders of the club were Alan "Dragon" Smith
and Nancy "Abacus" Smith from the World Watch One Team Denver days. We still
get together every now and then to play Magic: The gathering and they keep
promising to show me their Red Lectroid mask someday... If they can find
where they put it in storage, although they say that the foam latex hasn't
stood up well.

My e-mail address came from my name of BBI Gumball (I collect gumball
machines). When the group still got together on a regular basis, we talked
of going to a con as red lectroids, and they said I would have to be John
Sourballs!

Anyway, if you could add me to the mailing list, you would have my eternal
gratitude.

Gumball

Hey just wanted to drop a line.
Got some BB news:

Clancy can be heard on the new Hardee's commercials
It's the one where it zooms out alot.

I was at a blockbuster the other night and found a 1990
copy of the film. It was in a newer box (newer than my
beat up previously-viewed copy). It was distributed by
"Video Tresures" ,not Vestron like mine, they had an
address on the box, but I didn't get it. I'll try next time.
This may be a line to copys of the flick!!

Phil

Greetings:

I saw the movie maybe half a dozen times in its original release. While
I worked at the video store, I used to play the video EVERY SINGLE DAY!
It put me in a good mood.

Now I manage a virtual reality entertainment center where we feature
interactive cockpit-based simulations. Participants choose and use call
signs for identification, so I have been known as "Buckaroo" for the
past three years. It's on my name tag. My license plate is "BKARU" and
the plate frame reads "No matter where you go, there you are." (thanks
to my hubby, they were Christmas gifts.)

I own a jetcar mug and a patch, but have been unsuccessful in locating
the original novel or any text stories.

I'd love to hear tidbits and rumors about future Banzai projects!

I've been looking in vain for a BB website and was ecstatic when I stumbled
across this one. Could you tell me-
-Is there EVER going to be another Bonzai movie? I read the script and I
think it's fabulous, very true to the original and perhaps even better.
-Do you know of any BB-oriented chat rooms anywhere?
I'd appreciate any info! My email is aromano@mailhost.tcs.tulane.edu
Thanks-
(and thanks for answering the watermelon question. That's the kind of thing
you never think actually HAS an answer. Imagine my surprise...)
