World Watch OnLine: The Buckaroo Banzai Mailing List
#1
Submissions: WWatchOne@aol.com
Editor: Banzai88@aol.com

Welcome to the first "issue" of World Watch OnLine!!
The following comments were cut-and-pasted from various introductions folks sent, which accounts for the one-on-one sound of a few of them.
A note on the format; while any comments I have will usually be sent from my Banzai88@aol.com address, if I add a note to someone's post, I'll precede it with *WW1* to let you know it's me. Sound fair?
Enjoy, and hope to see comments from more of you for next time.

Always true Blue!

Well, I'm Mario Di Giacomo, aka the Bookwyrm (one of three existing on the
'Net, btw). I've been writing netfic for about 8 years now, both on
listservs and on usenet. Oh yes, and I would *kill* for a copy of the
novelization :).

Ok, I'll introduce myself. My name is Brandon Storm, I'm a student at
Morristown High School and I'm interested in art, , making and watching
movies, HIGHLANDER, and comics. I'm not quite sure how I got into BB, I
remember a long time ago ( I was probably 7 ) I was watching BB with my
brothers. One said " I saw this before" but I watched it anyway. Years
later I was in Florida on vacation and THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI
ACROSS THE EIGHTH DIMENSION was on the Sci-Fi channel, but I only got to
see the fighting at Yoyodyne at the end. So when I returned home I rented it. So that is how I got started in BB.

I plan on sending in some fan-fic later, but I'm not sure what it will be
about.
Here are 2 questions,

1. Were there BB action figures?

2. Does anyone love the music played during the team march at the end as
much as I do?

Hi there! I think this is a good idea. Count me in! I used to think that I
was one of the only people in the Universe who had ever heard of Buckaroo
Banzai. Now that I have found all "you guys" I know that my opinion that
this is "one of the best movies ever made" is shared by others!! Cool! I am
a California Native, living in South Orange County, Southern California. I
am a 47 year old female. I am also a fan of Star Trek (all "generations"!),
and Blade Runner. You don't need to post all this stuff, but you said you
wanted to know who was responding, so there it is. I will welcome your
e-mail, jpegs and .wavs! I've been ionized, but I'm ok now.

Starrie :)

Greetings,
Tim Spellman, Blue Blaze Irregular, checking in. Sounds like a
plan to me.
As for a few details, well, I got started out when I saw a
preview for the movie during one of my excursions to the midnight movies
in Cincinnati. Went to it, and the rest is history.
I can provide you with a submission, too. A friend of mine, is a
Buckaroo Banzai fanatic, but isn't online. I've posted some fan fiction
of his on my homepage at http://www.umr.edu/~spellman/banzai.html
As I understand, aol now has a web browser.

	Signing off,

*WW1* The following is a note from the keeper of the BB Homepage to folks on AOL mainly, but I thought I'd include it anyway. It's a great page, and if you haven't surfed it yet, what are you waiting for?? And don't forget to pass along your feedback on the page. A lot of work went into this and it shows. hi chris...

a trick you may want to pass along to BBI's about the
homepage for the Instute:

if you want to RETRIEVE the jpgs instead of viewing them,
configure the browser to SAVE the files rather than
DISPLAY them; then they will d/l to your local
system... same thing with the sound bytes.

in fact, that's why i put them up in that format :)

please give me some feedback: since you are on AOL...
does the browser display the backgrounds?
are you able to retrieve the jpg images?
do the sounds work?

thanks, and keep me posted

Hello!
My name is Steve Cook. I am a physicist, currently working on some
contracts with Sandia National Labs. One of the reasons I thought it
would be neat to become a physicist is because Buckaroo Banzai was
(among other things ;). I have worn out the video as well, but I have
since bought it on LaserDisc... so it won't wear out!

Do you have a mailing list program? If not, where I have this account,
I can start a MAJORDOMO list, with all the functions automated. I currently
run the Ferrari Mailing List. (ferrari@nmt.edu), and with
majordomo, it is extremely easy.

THanks!

Hello,

Sure, please place me on your list. I'm a big fan of the Banzai
Institute and all that it stands for. I first became aware of BB when
the theatrical release came out all those many years ago. It's
undefinable genre and its overall quirkiness grabbed hold of me and never
let go! Anyway, after the movie, I really became upset when I heard that
the studio had no solid plans to produce the sequel to "Across the 8th
Dimension." Bummer. I'd love to get the addresses of Peter Weller and
Jeff Goldblum and try to persuade them into making BB versus The World
Crime League. Those two play in a band together, much like the "real"
Hong Kong Cavaliers.

Anyway, a little about myself as per your request. I'm a computer
technician, and student of the history of science and fractal
mathematics. Currently, I'm finishing up my doctoral degree at the
University of Iowa. My dissertation involves making theoretical
connections between chaos theory and human speech patterns. With any
luck, I should get my degree from Iowa's Department of Communication
Studies by this May. Right now, I'm in Palm Beach, Florida -- spending
the winter down here where I can complete the final chapters of the
dissertation in relative warmth!

Okay, okay, I'm just rambling now. I'll leave. Take care and thanks for
keeping the memory of my hero alive.

There I am,

Charlie S.

It was a rainy Sunday in Virginia...the kind where there's nothing to
do, no one to talk to. So I'm laying there, flicking channels and
BAM! there it was...on the channel I never watch due to the lame
programming, I was suddenly watching with morbid fascination the most
peculiar movie. "What kind of name is 'Buckaroo Banzai' for a movie
character?" I thought to myself. The more I watched, the more
impressed I became. The rest is history. I (finally)found a copy of
the book in a used book store and treasure it dearly. One of the first
questions I ask people I meet anew is "Do you know the Banzai way?" It's a
great
barometer of character.

I am extremely interested in corresponding with any others who are as sick
and
twisted in their fascination with BB.

Thank you and goodnight.

Lisa (aka Emerald)

"Can you sing?"
"A little...I can dance."

Chris-

Thanks for your email concerning the Buckaroo Banzai mailing list. Please
include me in the monthly mailings.

You suggested we introduce ourselves or tell how we were sucked into the
whole 8th dimensional thing. Okay, you asked for it. I saw BB for the first
time 11 years ago when it was playing in a small "artsy" theater as a double
feature with "Johnny Dangerously" (we skipped the Johnny Dangerously thing).
Until I got online, I thought I was one of maybe five BB fans out there. I
knew the other four, we saw the movie together. Since then I've rented it a
million times and finally taped BB when it played on the SciFi channel.

I've really enjoyed this BB board. BB fans are a certain quality of person
you can't guarantee finding anywhere else. If you meet one you know they
will most likely be witty, intelligent and kind.

I am new to the convention and collecting scene so I appreciate all the
information on BB stuff that's out there.

Thanks for all your work and energy on this, Chris. Please keep me included.

Susan
